KOL should have released their new album a week before last week. Would have given them #1 on the album chart easily w/ 184K (well over last weeks #1 Toby Keith, 71K). Dumb move by their record label to go against an established Country band.

They could have chosen Oct. 12th, where they was very little competition. No big music name didn’t put their album out that week. They could have owned that week of the 12th with debuting at No. 1, just like Sugarland did for Oct. 19th and what Taylor Swift will do for the week of the 25th. Blame it on their label!

Wait a minute, an article not about Glee? Am I on the right website?

    • buddymoore

The Glee album is referenced in the second paragraph; therefore, this article was allowed to be published

      • The Jackal

        Damnit, you’re right.

  • Bob

Kings of Leon have to be dissapointed. All that promo and #2…losing out to Sugarland??? SugarLand???LOL
Maybe people finally realized that every one of their songs sounds exactly the same. And the singer’s voice is annoying. Just like Moronic 5, bombs away!

    • Viv

are you saying all of sugarland’s songs sound the same??? are you serious? have you listened to their songs because they probably have the most eclectic music for a country band…

      • Viv

jk i think you were talking about KoL in which case i completely agree lol

      • Bob

Yes I was talking about KOL. I have no idea what Sugarland sounds like but it is probably gay.

      • Phil

WOW! Uninformed people still make comments like ‘…but it is probably gay.’ in 2010!? As a gay dude who happens to not mind the occasional country tune (Sugarland’s “Stuck Like Glue” is on my iPod), I implore you to think of better descriptions for when some piece of entertainment fluff doesn’t appease you or your tastes. And as a Maroon 5 fan, I still dunno why you make such hateful posts unless your last girlfriend broke up with you and you take the lyrics to their “If I Never See Your Face Again” literally.

    • graeme

Uh…Sugarland’s last album sold over 2 million copies. Even more than KOL’s album.

      • ej

um KOL sold over 2.5 million in the US 6.5 Million worldwide..check ur facts

  • jfms777

This is all superficial, since Taylor
Swift will wipe the floor with all of
    them (next week).

    • T

Great. Let’s discuss this week. Pretty sure that’s what the article is about.

  • Ad Rock

This band has been doing much better since the record company convinced the fat girl to go behind the scenes. I wonder if they would be as popular with the fat girl?

  • ej

Sugarlands last album sold 2 million? Kings sold much more than that…KOL should have released a better song for a leadoff single if they wanted to have the number one album..the album is great by the way and his voice is awesome..not cookie cutter like every other voice out now…stop hating

    • S.O.

Like I said in my earlier 1st post, any regular rock band that would normally sell about 125 – 175K for a new album in it’s 1st week that is against a huge country artist/band will always lose. If KOL record label would have released the new album a week or 2 before the initial release date, they would have gotten #1 on the album chart easily. “Radioactive” is a good 1st single off the new album. Their last album started to sell boat loads of copies when their 2nd single “Use Somebody” became a crossover mega hit that landed in the top 10 song charts.

    • Viv

like you said before KoL has sold 2.5 mil, thats really not that much of a difference… plus most of that for KoL is not from a LOYAL fanbase (people bought because they liked the singles), most of sugarland’s sales are from loyal fans that buy because they love them not necessarily singles. Sorry that you can’t face the fact that KoL is not as popular in the U.S. as other acts.

I’m glad that people didn’t take EW’s review of the Sugarland CD (complete with its C+ grade) to heart. Here in Boston, both the Globe and the Herald gave it very positive reviews – agreement between these two publications is extremely rare…

    • Preston

People magazine also gave it a positive 3-star review. A few critics just don’t like the duo trying to recall ’80s arena rock on some songs on their country album. But you can hear those ’80s influences before they got into music.

  • Keith

The new Sugarland album is incredible and I’m glad their fans made a statement!!!!

  • kathy60

Finally……an article on the net about someone other than Taylor Swift. Sugarland is great and they deserve as much air time as TS. At least Jennifer can sing!!

  • Preston

I find that the country albums always sell very strong in October. The cooler fall days just match with the storytelling in the songs. That might be why Toby Keith, Sugarland and some others sold well their first weeks this month. They get theirs out of the way before November–that’s really when your pop, R&B,urban and rap albums always sell well that month. Also, I think that because Sugarland’s new album recalls some ’80s music in their country patchwork, that’s what made people get it more. If there’s that little retro-’80s tangent in there, you know they’ll get it to recognize their favorites within the songs. The mere mention on Bon Jovi, Blondie and arena rock in the album reviews may have hooked some music buyers to get it.
