Lil Wayne released the most upbeat goodbye letter ever. Notes of the sort are usually a bit more sullen. But his happiness is understandable when you know where he’s prepping to exit: Rikers Island. After paying his debt to society and serving his eight-month stint in the bing for a weapons charge, Weezy gets out this Thursday. Throughout his stay at Rikers, Wayne’s been getting out letters to his fans on his WeezyThanxYou blog. And for its tenth and final letter, he thanked them one last time for their support. This morning
“The very first day that I received mail,” he starts. “It was about 300 pieces or more! I smiled like a child [on] Christmas. But when I began to read them, my heart smiled. I laughed with some of you, reasoned with some of you, and even cried with some of you.” He also promised that he’ll be an improved version of himself, but still the spacey talent we remember him as. “I vow to continue to be me! For you have assured time that I don’t have to change for no one but God. I will be the same Martian I was when I left, just better,” Wayne says.
Wayne’s been gone for a while, although it doesn’t feel like he’s really left. Since being incarcerated he’s had a No. 1 album, released several singles, and even appeared on Eminem’s new hit “No Love.” Have you felt his absence? As we’ve reported, Wayne will likely go straight to the studio to make more music upon release. Are you happy he’s getting out in less than two days? Let us know.
