Gorillaz record new album on iPad for possible year-end release

damon-albarnImage Credit: Graeme Flegenheimer/WireImage.comDamon Albarn has been busy recording a brand-new album by his cartoon band Gorillaz, per a new interview with NME — and he hopes to rush it to market “before Christmas” this year.

The British singer has been quietly recording the album during Gorillaz’ current tour using his Apple iPad. “I’ve made it on an iPad — I hope I’ll be making the first record on an iPad,” he tells NME. “I fell in love with my iPad as soon as I got it, so I’ve made a completely different kind of record.”

If a new Gorillaz album really arrives in stores by Dec. 25, it would be only a few months after the release of their album Plastic Beach this past March. This would be a very pleasant surprise for fans who waited five years for a new full-length after 2005′s Demon Days.

hope it’s a little less sleepy then Plastic Beach. That had some good moments, but was missing the spark of the first 2.

Gorillaz is a singles band anyway. He should concentrate on recording some killer singles and releasing them. Most of their album filler is not good.

What? Do you listen to Gorillaz? They aren’t radio-friendly at all. I can agree that their self-titled and Plastic Beach had some filler, but Demon Days was perfect.

Interested in what the sound on this new one is going to be like.

You must be listening to ham radio then. “Feel Good Inc.” was a massive radio hit, and “Stylo” was all over alternative radio earlier this year… and I hear “Rhinestone Eyes” pretty regularly on the radio. As for Demon Days, “Fire Coming Out of the Monkey’s Head” alone proves my point that Gorillaz albums are full of crap filler.

Thanks, nodnarb. You’re definitely right. I usually take the hits and a few favorites like “All Alone” and “Dracula” and put them on my iTunes. Good call! BTW, where the HECK is the real release and video for “Superfast Jellyfish?” That has HIT written all over it!

I have been listening to the new Gorillaz single, “Doncamatic” Feat. newcomer Daley on repeat on YouTube for the past few days! I tried to copy the link here, but it won’t allow me to share, so go to YouTube and enjoy! And I dunno, maybe it should be the Gorillaz Presents Daley cause she sings almost the entire track, but I don’t care cause its one of the best songs I’ve heard all week, and could actually be a radio hit! For Gorillaz fans, the single is already available to be pre-ordered on the U.S. iTunes store and comes out on Nov. 22nd.

    Its a genius!

Best group out now that is doing something new, besides radiohead. Cant waint, think plastic beach was under-rated, Viva La Damon!

    They are different and special.
cmon Gorillaz! You are already one of the genre of music.

Plastic Beach is their best so far, followed by Demon Days for a close 2nd. He took more chances on Plastic Beach and that alone deserves credit. I hated Doncamatic the 1st few listens, but it has grown on me. I was walking and suddenly that ‘all played out’ melody came to mind. Damon Albarn is a clever man!

I believe that Gorillaz’ albums just get better with each one. Better than just singles; most albums are a complete listen- from first song to last. Clever layering and lush beats keep me pulled in.
Keep up the good work Damon!
