Only Girl was never #1. If it had been Rihanna would have had nine #1′s two weeks ago.

    #9 TBD? wtf?

  • Jeffrey

I thought Only Girl had peaked at 2 before this week. What’s My Name was number one two weeks ago.

    • Jase

Correct. This is Rihanna’s 9th #1, and 4th this year.

  • Juan

Who is oversees this blog? Can we get a dedicated music-head? As mentioned already, this is the first week in the pole position for “Only Girl”.

  • Phil

The more I think about it, its further embarassment since #9is Cee Lo’s F**k You” (a new peak for the song) and its first time in the top 10 on the heels of the Glee Cast singing “Forget You” with Gweneth Paltrow (which debuts just outside the top 10 at #11). And Simon should write up a nice little retraction since he wrote up the blog post last Friday proclaiming that the album wasn’t a hit, and that Glee singing the song was too little, too late! Talk about shooting one’s self in the foot. Happy Holidaze y’all, hopefully once the EW employees enjoy some turkey & sleep it off, they’ll wake up and start acting like ‘real entertainment journalists’ again.

    • Sara

LOL – I loved your rant. Totally agree.

    • D2

No actually Simon was quite right, his album isn’t a hit, he stated quite often and blatantly in his article that ‘F**k You’ was a smash, it was one of his reasons for why the album should have done well. So, nice rant, you just look like an idiot now.

    • Phil

@D2- Simon ALSO blatantly stated that GLEE performing the song one week late, was too little too late & that the song had already peaked at #17…THATS WHAT I WAS REFERRING TO since them performing the song CLEARLY helped the song jump into the top 10 and their version debuted even higher than its original peak at #11 – can’t people READ anything anymore?! How dumb has society become!?

  • Meghan

It says that Only Girl In The World rebounded HER to the number one spot, not the song, referencing the song Whats My Name being number one in the past.

  • Adwina Lambert

Ship this squeaky-voiced island jungle girl back to barbados! tee-hee!

    • Justin K

CORRECTION: It is “squeaky-voiced island jungle BUNNIE…”

    • D2

But then who would be the queen?!

  • Preston

Only Girl was stuck at 3 when What’s My Name raced to No. 1. Far East Movement’s song blocked them from the top a few weeks. But I’ve been hearing Only Girl more. The radio station in my area has YET to play What’s my Name–maybe they’re not into Drake as much.

  • Preston

Maybe the writer had thought that Only did go to No. 1 but it never did until this new week. It was a tight competitive chart when Only was at 2 or 3 before it finally went to No. 1. It took its time to get up there, about a month. You have Far East Movement’s hit and Pink’s song coming out of nowhere as well as Rihanna’s other song with Drake that challenged it.

  • Preston

I like What’s My Name, but it’s a little repetitive with the chorus and that over and over singing pattern might have made it drop to 8. Plus I was surprised that it’s 4:22 on the album–I wonder if they had to trim the time for radio to that 3:30-3:46 range–they are hesistant to play longer songs.

    • graeme

What’s My Name is still exploding at radio. It’s still moving up the chart and will be in the top 10 for a while.

  • rome114

the title is based on a false assumption or understanding. therefore, it’s an error even if what it was alluding to was explained in the copy.

it would have been right this way: Rihanna returns to #1 (no mention of song)

by mentioning the title song, it implied that the song returned to #1, which is inaccurate.

  • Joe in Philly

Only the headline is incorrect. The article has the correct information.

    • Mark

Not true. Direct quote from the article: “Are you surprised that Rihanna’s “Only Girl” is No. 1 again?”

  • Phil

To everyone who came to the game late, reading all our rants, for the 2nd time in 2 weeks, Billboard made errors, read all the comments telling them their articles were WRONG and quiickly edited them without saying they changed the articles to save face. When the EW writer here copied the facts from the article, they were still wrong, and unchanged.

    • Phil

Oh to clarify, the ORIGINAL Billboard piece rush-written Wednesday said in the very first paragraph that after 2 weeks, Rihanna returns to #1 with “Only Girl” and further in the paragraph saying “What’s My Name” slipped to 8, so YES, IT WAS A HUGE ERROR ON THEIR PART, and everyone reading this story now thinks we were crazy for going into an uproar over it. Its the slow & steady decline of real entertainment journalism. Its easier to report on a star being engaged, breaking up or going to jail, then to you know, get actual numbers straight, and sadly this was a major coup for Rhi Rhi since it was the 1st time EVER that a debut single went back to #1 AFTER the 2nd single already went to the #1 spot. They should have had alot of nice things to say, but instead they screwed that up and were more worried about kissing Nicki Minaj’s @$$ that day cause her debut finally dropped.
