Why on Earth would anyone pay for “Hey, Soul Sister”?! God, I’d pay to NOT have to hear it!

    • Cris

No more comments needed on this thread. Allison just said it all.

      • Lesbean UK

I love soul sister, best song ever and UKDateMatch was really good

    • Peter

Even if you do like it, just wait five minutes. No matter where you are, you’ll hear it.

      • Deb

That’s no joke. I can’t get away from that stupid song!

      • Catlin

        I hate that song.

    • Ryan

I consider myself to generally me musically picky, but I just cannot get sick of this song. Is it overplayed? Absolutely. But I love it, and I really love their whole album. Guilty pleasure? Maybe.

      • LMNOP

If you’re a Train fan, like I am, it doesn’t matter if it’s overplayed. That’s the fault of the stupid radio stations. It’s still a great song.

      • GS

I am a TRAIN fan and I absolutely LOVE Hey Soul Sister. Best song from that group since Drop of Jupiter. Haters get real.

      • Color Me Impressed

@Ryan: I completely agree! I’m usually apprehensive when it comes to modern mainstream music, but I really do enjoy this song. I guess its just a guilty pleasure.

    • Brenda Barrett

I can’t get past the reference to “left-side brains.” The song is filled with really bad lyrics.

    • kidding right?

The music industry is ridiculous. Things seem to be promoted these days based solely on star power. No one cares what they sing and nobody hold them accountable for making BS music! The fake music industry along with media outlets like EW, Spin, Rolling Stones will lie in a heartbeat and tell the unwitting public something is good when they know good and damn well it is not. They support music based on the name or if they like that artist or group! It’s really disgusting!

    • anya

I actually liked this song a lot when it first came out! I thought it was cute! But now that it’s in like 15 different commercials 6 months after it was way overplayed on the radio I don’t like it so much anymore.

  • R.J. MacReady

A little while back, EW used iTunes sales to justify the position that “Here Comes The Sun” is the most popular Beatles song. Given that Train and Eminem sold better does that mean everyone prefers Train and Eminem to the Beatles? Or does it reflect that most folks already had their Beatles tunes ripped from their CDs?

    • PDT

Or does it reflect that the Beatles’ music wasn’t available until the tail-end of the year? Or does it reflect the fact that MOST of the Beatles’ fans are in the age group that is afraid of and/or doesn’t understand iTunes?

    • kidding right?

The Beatles have actual talent these fools are a bad joke in comparison! I’m just surprised that SERIAL WIFE BEATER Eminem does not have to suffer any public ridicule or persecution for his many years of spousal abuse! I watched this very media say that a teen shouldn’t have a career over 1 fight but Eminem gets a constant pass and now 10 GRAMMY NOMS? Wow, Life in America is a funny thing!

    • GS

Well if I wanted to spend 149 Dollars to buy their whole music box set maybe. Not going to though.

  • Art

Pleasantly surprised to see Sade and Mumford and Sons on this list. And dang, Taylor Swift sold a lot of albums to rank 5th on the list for an album that just came out a month ago.

  • Victor Eloy

Hey soul sister should have been nominated for record and song of the year..and it should have won both awards….
it’s the best song from this year alongside I like it from enrique iglesias…

    • Dave

Hands down, the two worst songs of the year.

  • Irwin

Can’t believe ‘Bad Romance’ isn’t there! The Best! Maybe it was 2009.

    • Mike

It was at the end of 2009. The music video got many views but the song never hit #1 on the billboard charts. It was on the radio a lot but maybe people already had the cd so they didn’t get the single?

      • Dillon

Bad Romance was blocked from the Number 1 position the whole time by Ke$ha’s Tik Tok and that’s why it never claimed pole position.

  • Margaret

Kesha’s album is number 2? What?

    • LMNOP

“Brushing my teeth with a bottle of Jack….” I can’t get past that lyric without wanting to vomit.

In music, the “fast food” singers are here for a buck, then gone in a flash. Listen to the track years later & the music sounds dated.

The 4- & 5-star restaurant artists stick around for awhile & make really good music that you can listen to years from now & it’s still good.

Kesha falls in the first category.

      • Color Me Impressed

@LMNOP: Thats a perfect way to put it! People will still be listening to–and appreciating–The Beatles 100 years from now, and as far as “modern” acts go, I’d like to say the same for true artists such as The Strokes and The White Stripes. Ke$ha and Taylor Swift will quickly be forgotten, and in about 20 years they’ll be about as relevant as Frankie Goes To Hollywood is now.

    • Mark

Animal is a good album. All the songs are great with no filler. There’s a reason it was the 2nd highest selling album.

  • S.O.

There needs to be a Music version of an Razzies Award Show.

    • Dude

S.O., it’s called the Grammys. Taylor Swift won the big prize last year, and the craptastic album from the Black Eyes Peas was a runner-up. Katy Perry’s craptastic album is nominated this year.

      • Amanda

LOL “CRAPTASTIC” just about sums it up..LOL! Music making is too political and too corporate. Artsist with 360 record deals are highly favored. Ke$ha,thw auto-tuned princess has a top selling CD? Whatever!!!

      • anya

Kesha’s album was super cheap for the first few months after it’s release, in fact if you bought Tik Tok it was cheaper to buy the CD then to buy all the singles she released off the album individually. I’ll admit it, I bought it. And that was why. I agree though, it’s kinda sad that it was the number 2 selling digital CD of the year.

  • Sarah

I’m surprised “The Fame” sold more than “The Fame Monster” this year…unless that’s a mistake.

    • Jaz

I’m pretty sure it was a mistake… The Fame was released back in 2008 but the Fame Monster was releasedin 2010.

    • Mark

Maybe the deluxe version counted towards The Fame?

  • Tron

WTF is that single list! ugh!

and on the album, dang Taylor! how much did she earned? being the producer and the writer. geez! that’s a lot of money! and btw! speak now is a solid brilliant album I must say.

I’ve heard speak now is certified triple platinum as of now… if that’s true, holy mother of god!!!!

  • Omg!

that single list, are the most annoying songs ever! just sayin’

  • Sean S.

I’m confused. All I heard all year was that Glee was breaking records on I-Tunes left and right, yet not once appearance on either chart. Weird.

    • Sean S.

      not one…sorry

    • Mark

      Thank God!

  • soniajs

“Hey, Soul Sister” makes me want to vomit. The reason? That one cringeworthy lyric, “heart beats out my untrimmed chest”. Untrimmed chest? Why do they have to say that? They just needed something to rhyme! That ruined the whole song for me. Gross.

  • Victor Eloy

I think Hey soul sister is the best tune of the year alongside Enrique Iglesias’s I like it and maybe Need you now from LAdy An…….
excellent song……..terrific tune! simply the best!

    • GS

I liked Ke$ha at first. Then I realized all her songs sound the same. The girl doesn’t really sing as more talk in her songs. Glad I only wasted money on one or two singles before I wised up!
