Image Credit: www.MonsterMondays.comContrary to the song’s title, Alicia Keys has plenty of words to describe the joy her first son, Egypt, has given her since he arrived last October. She does just that in “Speechless,” a new release in producer and husband Swizz Beatz’s weekly Monster Mondays web offerings. “There ain’t no medal prize [that] can compare to you,” she beams on the track. The production samples Kanye West’s “Devil in a New Dress” from his recent My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which samples from Smokey Robinson & the Miracles’ “Will You Still Love Me.”
As sweet as its lyrics are, the track is a bit bland. Alicia’s piano work over the sample does little to separate it from the original, nor does the added drum pattern. And rapstress Eve doesn’t do much to help either, delivering a ho-hum verse about generally falling in love. Keys made sure to tell her fans that this is not an official single or and doesn’t reflect the work direction of her forthcoming album. “‘Speechless’ is a little freestyle treat 4 the holidays,” she tweeted. “It’s not a new album, not a single. It’s something special 4 U!”

bland? your writing is bland, not this song.
I wonder what the song will be called when Alicia and Swizz Beatz break up????
So I guess you’re saying Brad that since its completely free, and not promoting a new album, its barely even worth writing up this piece since in your ears, its ‘a bit bland’ ? And its just a teaser since Eve’s new single is dropping at the top 0f 2011 with the album “Lip Lock” coming in March, which is rumored to contain a Ruff Ryders reunion track which of course Swizz is a part of…SIGH…
I think it’s great! One of the best songs I’ve heard in a long time. Bland?? What??? Alicia is doing her thing and when she does, it’s always superb. I hope she always does ,her thing, and doesn’t let anyone else influence her to do their thing. I would think by now she would know SHE is why she has become such a truly exceptional artist. Alicia, keep doing your thing, your way. Much love!
I love the song. It’s very speacial. And it reminds me so much back in the day. Old school!
