Image Credit: Fin Costello/Redferns/Getty ImagesDavid Lee Roth is apparently back in the studio with Van Halen. There have been rumors for some months that the singer was set to reunite with his old band and those rumors have seemingly been confirmed by producer John Shanks, who has previously overseen albums by Bon Jovi and Miley Cyrus, amongst others. First Shanks tweeted the message “here we go kids…..vh” and then he posted a photograph of Eddie Van Halen’s amplifier accompanied by the message, “Wtf!”
Last August, Billboard reported that a release by music publishers Warner Chappell—who represent Eddie and Alex Van Halen—had stated that a Van Halen CD featuring Roth would be released in 2011.
Roth fronted Van Halen during their successful 2007-8 tour but hasn’t actually recorded an album with the band since 1984′s 1984, which was certified platinum eight times.
Needless to day, that was a looooong time ago. Are you excited to hear what Dave and Eddie sound like in 2011?

Yup,but Michael Anthony is being replaced by Wolfgang Van Halen on bass.
SOOOOO thats not a bad thing
i imagine VH fans will just be geeked out over this news but the fact remains that Roth has become a parody of himself, and whats more hasn’t written a song in decades! this is going to be like GnR doing another record, the rock world wants it desperately but in the end can never meet expectations.
Check your facts. Roth has continued to write music for a long time after his commercially successful solo albums.
i fear you are spot on…but lets hope not…thing is with gnr axle hated appetite for destruction and did everything not to sound like that…on the other hand ac/dc and kiss and the stones all learned if it aint broke do fix it…lets hope they do that instead
Hmmm. Being a Van Halen fan back in the day, I find myself, a bit surprisingly, not caring.
yeah, ever since miley cyrus appeared then suddenly you developed beiber fever
This news would have made me happy back in 1990, not so much now.. besides, this is still not the original line up so screw it…
No Michael Anthony = No Van Halen. I like Wolfgang and think he’s super talented, but I wish he had his own band. I’d buy his CD, too. Van Halen is not Van Halen without the original 4… so I think they’ll do well because any VH is better than no VH, but it could’ve been awesome.. CD, tour, 2012 Super Bowl halftime…
A reunited Van Halen can’t POSSIBLY be any worse than the audio diarrhea that is on the radio today.
I’ll agree with you on that.
Adam – I agree that what is on the radio (wait – is there still radio?) nowadays doesn’t cut anything even resembling “the mustard”, but don’t pin your hopes on what will be a horse cart full of recycled riffs and David Lee Roths’ vocals auto-tuned within an inch of their life.
Proof: Check out what Van Halen put out with Roth back in 1996 on their greatest hits album – and that was 15 years ago!!!!
Too little. Too late. Too bad.
I would hope that it would be produced as well as ACDCs Black Ice… that being said its been a looooong time for us VH fans…
I care … & yet it’s years too late. But at least it looks like we won’t have to see Diamond Dave on DWTS or whatever.
I can so see David Lee Roth on DWTS. Not because I want to see him there, as much as, that is right up his alley. Where else can a ham be a ham?
I don’t care if VH ever does another new song. I’m fine with them being an oldies act. We’re talking about some awesome oldies. Skip the studio, head out on the road. Seeya this summer, boys!
ROTH RULES!!!
After what Eddie did to Michael Anthony, he can take this new album and SHOVE it.
What did Eddie do to Michael Anthony? I must have missed something along the way.
I have not missed a VH show since 1982…but I won’t pay $150 for a decent seat only to be dissapointed AGAIN. I walked out on the 1998, 2004 and 2007 tours.
Eddie can’t play anymore (drugs and booze have caught up). On they’re last tour with David Lee Roth they used Michael Anthony’s background vocals on a tape to replace Wolfgangs vocals. I’m not even lying about that…total truth.
I expect the same next tour. Do yourself a favor and check YouTube to see how bad it is. Remember, this is coming from a life long Van Halen fan. It’s all about cash with these guys so don’t say you weren’t warned.
Your knowledge of the guitar obviously is limited to your wireless Guitar Hero guitar…
…you’re right about DLR, though, in 2007 – he was much better a couple months into the tour, on the second leg…
Without Dave it`s just not Van Halen.Who gives a darn about Mike ? I sure don`t.. Dave and Eddie Alex and Wolfgang is VAN HALEN !!!!
