Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Florence Welch and Martina McBride to perform Grammys tribute to Aretha Franklin

THE-QUEEN-OF-SOULThe Queen of Soul will be honored with a full-on diva jamboree at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards this Sunday: Christina Aguilera, Yolanda Adams, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride and Florence and the Machine’s Florence Welch have been announced as performers in an Aretha Franklin tribute intended as a “valentine” and “get well” card for the recently ailing legend—an 18-time winner and current nominee for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.

Best New Artist nominee Esperanza Spalding has also been added as a performer, and Marc Anthony, Jamie Foxx, John Mayer and Donnie Wahlberg have all been added to the presenters roster.

    snap! that sounds GOOD!

  • Chichi

Florence and Martina don’t stand a chance against the wall of sound coming from Hudson, Aguilera and Adams.

    • Bobby’s Robot

I don’t know about Martina, but Florence Welch has a great set of pipes. And she doesn’t over-do like some of the others.

      • Dee Jones

I`m not a huge fan of Florence, but this lady can wail. I think she can hang with the rest of the ladies.

      • MarkieMark

        You are SO correct here…..

    • PN

Florence Welch is a very good singer for her band! I’m sure that Aretha Franklin was a musical influence to her along with the rock artists and other genres she listened to in her youth.

    • Larry David

Jennifer Hudson has the face of a baboon. ;-)

      • fancypants

        you’re a piece of sh!t.

        With a little “d”!
        Your mother!

      • MarkieMark

that is so lame to say something like that.

      • ew-bot

Wow, if that’s true, then baboons are much better looking than I thought!

    • MarkieMark

wall of sound? Hmmm. Is that what you call all that yelling and forced vibrato? Florence will nail it. And she’s not with the Machine tonight….

    • Ally

Might I humbly suggest you YouTube Martina’s “Where Would You Be” and then reassess that comment? She’s got a range that is just as vast as any of her other co-performances.

    BEST GRAMMY EVER!

Christina and Florence together! Arcade Fire! Eminem! Rihanna! Katy Perry! Muse! Lady Gaga! Cee Lo and Gwyneth this year are on fire!

  • PN

Oh you can’t beat that lineup of singers! Can’t wait to hear Jennifer Hudson and Christina Aguilera to sing Aretha’s songs! Jennifer, you sing it, girl! Christina, I’m ready to hear you again! And Martina McBride doing Aretha? I know she’s got that soul voice in her under her country music lineage! And I like that Florence Welch is taking part! I like that the younger music generation is honoring Aretha in this tribute!

  • Atlanta

Florence is going to be AMAZING.

    • MarkieMark

YES she will be. Cant wait to hear what she does.

  • damw

I’ve always heard Aretha’s “Baby, I Love You” as a song with a country melody. I wonder if the producers hear it the same way

    • Dee Jones

What about “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man”. Now that could be turned into a country song, that could be a good song for Martina to sing.

  • Classy

While I don’t have a great deal of respect for the Grammys in general, that is one mega lineup!! Wow. Aretha is going to get the amazing, powerful tribute she deserves. These ladies have awesome voices-the BEST. I’m so excited for this show. Im very pleased with pretty much everyone who’s listed to perform. Oh, I wish Britney would get her nerves together and perform or at least show up. That would make life perfect:-)

    • mnm

Has Britney ever performed at the Grammys? I can’t recall.

      • loubeoh

I hope you that by “perform” you mean lipsync otherwise you will be very disapointed.

    • she has

Britney performed “Baby one more time” and “from the bottom of my broken heart” back in 2000. Its on you tube ;)

  • Kiki

I’m hoping Xtina kills it the way she killed it at the James Brown tribute in 2007. I’m still dying over “It’s a Man’s World!”

    • mnm

      that was a legendary performance.

  • Cat

It’ll be interesting to hear Florence and Martina take on Aretha. I might actually watch this year.

  • Dick

It is a sad day that Christina not only butchered the words to our National Anthem, but she also butchered the melody. When anyone sings our national anthem, it should Always be sung as written, not in some dimwitted alternation or arrangement.

  • norma

Jennifer Hudson and Christina Aguilera why yes I will be watching. Two powerful singers putting it down for the queen of soul Mrs. Aretha Franklin. Jhud hell yes!!!

  • jury’s out

God bless them all, but I’ll pass. Too much oversinging and trying to outdo each other.

  • Adwina Lambert

Hasbeen over exposed and over-rated Floptina should just retire! tee-hee!

    • MarkieMark

and who are you listening to that is better?

  • Sandra

I will be front and center for this tribute. Christina may have had a bad super bowl performanace but she will kick A@$ on this tribute to Aretha. Jennifer goes w/o saying and Martina has one of the best voices in country music- she only has the most popular valentine song EVER!!

  • Glo

Martina mcbride is the best singer in my books.hopefully she sings the albulm Independance day.
