I’m surprised Speak Now fell so far. I’m happy for Nicki, it’s a great record, although it’s more pop-sounding than expected. I’m also glad P!nk’s greatest hits seems to be showing some staying power.

I think the Pink album is selling more because some people might not have gotten her early albums and this best of is a good sample of her decade of hits.

Nicki was smart to infuse more pop into her music….it’ll increase her radio exposure and widen her fanbase.

      • Classy

Indeed. I kind of wanted some more hardcore from her though. Pretty fantastic album overall though.

Yes, Taylor Swift’s Speak Now album was in that top 10 a full 3 months before its exit. It might be between 11 and 20, but it’s time for some new albums to take the top 10. It might get back in there again. Bruno Mars is No. 4! I think Grenade AND his 7 Grammy nominations as the Grammy awards are approaching on the 13th might have made it sell more and move back up the chart.

Taylor’s Speak Now is front end loaded and has sold well over 3 million already in the past 3 months and Nicki has just barely sold over 1 million, so it’s great she’s doing so well, but Taylor is still far ahead of everyone else in the same short spanse of time. Speak Now is original and that more than I can say for the drivel I just listened to ala Gaga’s “new” *cough cough* song Born This Way. Thank heavens for the genuine “original” songwriting talent that music buyers have in Taylor Swift. Go home and start over Gaga.

Former Gaga fan ranting, so excuse me but just a bit disappointed right now.

After taking a look at the top ten, I now know why no one bothers to pay for music anymore. I wouldn’t listen to the crap if the artists paid me to.

    • Jonathan

That’s your opinion; music is subjective, and it’s kind of immature to call this ‘crap’ without any justification as to why to think so.

  • wakeforce

Sad you can’t find a single thing to like in the entire top 10. You do know that Frank Sinatra is dead, right?

  • confidential

If you add all 10 albums you only get slightly above 300k albums sold. How amazing can a decade of difference be.

I listen to mainstream rap music nowadays and often feel lost. But I got to say, every time Nikki Minaj pops up on a track I perk up. Her verse on Kanye West’s “Monster” is possibly the albums best; high praise considering the album I’m talking about. Her song on Robin Thicke’s “Sex Therapy” is one of its only highlights. She continues to impress me so I’ve been thinking maybe I should pick “Pink Friday” up.

    • Jonathan

I really enjoy the album, but I’ll warn you it’s a lot more pop than her verse on Monster made her out to be (that was EPIC though). Roman’s Revenge is really the only song where she is hardcore, but it’s a good album nonetheless.

All evidence of what sells. Crap.

    • Pele

Look at these numbers. This crap isn’t selling. Remember when real artists would sell 1 million in a single week? That Lady Gaga knockoff only managed 45,000. LOL!

      • Anna

Yes, Limp Bizkit, Nsync, Britney, BSB are your definition of true artists? I feel sory for you. And how can you compare someone’s 11th week sale to others 1st week. This is Nicki’s debut album, who would expect her to sell a million especially with expanded piracy. Try to use that thing in your skull before you make baseless comparisons.

  • Luke

Remember back when Eminem and Britney and the Backstreet Boys were selling 1 million albums per WEEK instead of per year like current pop artists?

    • PN

But Eminem, Britney and Backstreet had their loyal fan bases right there in front of them who stuck with them with every album they did as their hits built up and their albums sold big their first weeks. Now, there’s this disconnect in an era of downloading, this I like this song, I don’t like this song mentality with some current artists. They don’t sell 1 million off the box the first week these days. Now it’s only 100,000 to 200,000. Artists need to stay connected to their fans in this era of social media and Facebook for their albums to sell!

  • PN

Finally! It took over 2 1/2 months for Nicki Minaj’s album to hit No. 1. Probably because there was some weak competition this past month with the few new 2011 albums and no big name competition.

  • malb

What exactly is platinum? Usually it means a million records sold but these numbers are condescending cuz they originally said her album went platinum back in December. I thought it was peculiar since it went platinum before Kanye’s album. They should count albums dl-ed off itunes and vinyls.

    • Anna

Platinum represents number of albums shipped out, not sold. Although, they ship albums according to demand so there is a strong correlation between the amount sold and shifted.

  • Marion Underground

Man i knew stupid things would come to this. Man if you ask me, Change the first three album to Love Letter, Libra Scale & Michael. Pink Friday shouldnt even be on there. Yo Nicki, Pink Friday, Blaaaaaahhhhhh. You should have stuck with the street beats and not crossover with the pop. YOU ARE A COMPLETE SELLOUT. Bring the Nicki from queens, where she was in the underground scene

  • Sean

    who carez

  • Shakespeare

Pink Friday is just a REMIX album of the 80’S, I don’t get the talent or musicianship behind it?

  • Jasmin

OMG!i’m so happpy for nicki minaj she deserves this.this is her moment for life.!wooooo nicki you showed your haterz whos boss ily nicki

  • Alisha

Britney, Backstreet Boys and Eninem don’t sell a million in a week anymore. Britney’s last album Circus sold 4 million total worldwide. Welcome to the world of illegal downloading. Nicki and these other artists are doing good for what is happening in the market currently.
