Only ONE award has been given out so far, how is this list made available? I thought the show is live. Have I missed something?

A lot of the awards are announced in a pre-ceremony show.
It’s common knowledge the Grammy’s only hand out about 10 of their over 100 categories in their 8 hour live telecast because they think we don’t care about the awards and only about the performances.
Anyone else here hoping GaGa would get stuck in that egg, ala Spinal Tap?

The Grammy people will announce a lot of the awards before the show starts. They’ll save the “big awards” for the televised broadcast.
Booo… Rihanna beat Robyn??? WTF? Fortunately, I get to see Robyn tonight in concert. Suck it, Grammys. And so bummed Glee didn’t win Best Pop Group.
Boo indeed. There were some fabulous dance recordings in that category, and then there was Rihanna. Who is not dance at ALL. It’s ridiculous she was nominated in that category and it’s a shame she won. How can anyone call that song a better dance recording than Goldfrapp, Gaga, La Roux, and Robyn?
I love Dancing on my Own, but love Only Girl even more! And it is a Europop/Dance number, so yeah it belongs in that category.

Kanye should have won Best Rap Solo Performance, Grammys have slipped big time. Hopefully he isn’t robbed next year…..

Well we certainly needed Kanye to be there when they announced the song of the year….Cee-lo and M&M were robbed.

A song with the F-word can’t win Grammy Song of the Year; too bad but it is what it is. And I can’t just believe Cee-lo beat Gaga in the creative department yay!
And please don’t get me started with LTWYL, that song is corny as h%ll, a woman beater and a beaten woman gloryfying their status.
I’m not even a country music fan (at all!) but “Need U know” is a great song: a relatable story and a pretty solid recording. I’m okay with this choice. The Grammys got it quite right this year so far.

That category has never been about singing.
Lady Ca Ca sings, just not very well. That’s what she has to be carried into the ceremony in a giant egg to distract attention from the fact that her “singing” and her “music” have no substance. It works, people eat it up, she makes the music industry a ton of of money and that’s why she wins Grammies for no discernible talent.

Criticisms of Lady Gaga’s increasingly ridiculous antics are perfectly fair. But trying to claim that she can’t sing is just patently false.
No kidding. Just search for any of her acoustic performances with the piano on YouTube.

Find some acoustic versions of her songs. She sings just fine. Very fine.
You’ve obviously never seen her concert tour. Her live voice is pretty damn good, even on the poppier songs.

They were the musical guest on SNL a couple of weeks ago. They were actually pretty good.

I cannot beleive Adam didn’t get a grammy for best male vocal performance, he so deserved that award……..
But Bruno’s win was well-deserved. Male Pop Vocal was a really strong category this year! All of the nominees were fabulous!
Did you really expect him to win? Just because the category had to do with best vocals doesn’t mean that’s what voters judged it on.
So The Black Keys won Best Alternative Album over Arcade Fire whose album is also nominated for Album of the Year. Yeah, that makes perfect sense.

Arcade Fire’s Album is great but I LOVE the Black Key’s album: Brothers. They are both deserving of the win but I am glad the Keys finally have gotten recognition.
I know! If the Arcade Fire album is the only alternative rock album nominated for Best Album, they’re already acknowledging that it was he best alternative album! Hypothetically, that’s like voting Roy Halladay MVP of the National League, but having him lose the Cy Young Award. It would make no sense.
To extend your analogy, let’s say you’re a pitcher and you’ve been nominated for best pitcher, as well as best overall baseball player. You might be pretty good at pitching, but you’re also good at a lot of other things as well, which is why you were nominated for best baseball player. But that doesn’t mean you’re the best pitcher. Best alternative album isn’t necessarily a subset of best album. It’s more specific.
further, the selection of best alternative albums were of way better quality than album of the year choices. Album of the year is just a random selection from all different genres. I bet Arcade fire won the vote in that one by a landslide, but Black Keys only won by a bit in the alternative.
They don’t televise all awards. That’s why we missed them. They are really trying to pack in the performances. Which I haven’t been too impressed with. Lots of off-key notes..lol!
Ugh someone explain to me how Usher’s Raymond vs. Raymond is a better contemporary R&B album than Janelle Monae’s The ArchAndroid? I hate how you pretty much have to be a mainstream artist to win a grammy.
I completely agree. If you watch a Grammy show from the Madonna/Michael Jackson era you’ll see a true celebration of the music world. Classy, entertaining.
Now the Grammys do nothing more than celebrate over-the-top #@%*, both in music & behavior. Gaga is trying too hard (her music is good enough on its own–stop it!). Kanye doesn’t try hard enough (can you say “sincere, meaningful apology”?. And what happened to consistently good music WITH good lyrics? Not over-the-top enough, I guess.

What do you mean by Madonna/MJ era? Madonna was never a Grammy staple until ‘Ray of Light.’ Kanye’s apology should have nothing to do with winning grammys (although his actions left him out of the album of the year category for 808s and heartbreak and caused taylor swift to win album of the year). you want a meaningful apology and great lyrical content? pick up his his latest disc. runaway is an apology; the whole album is lyrically (and melodically) genius.
Yeah I said the same thing in another post. Janelle Monae`s album was original, creative and different! Usher won because he was the bigger seller and well known out the group.
