NKOTBSB album track listing released: Which songs made the cut?

The track listing for the upcoming collabo-album from NKOTBSB was released today, but something about this fan-picked lineup has me wondering whether this album, out May 24, has the right stuff.  [Pause for pun applause…and flying tomatoes.]

In all seriousness, fans had no shortage of hits to choose from when they voted for the tracklisting. (They did so last month in a ten-day online voting spree.) But did they pick the right ones? Here’s a look at the full line-up:

NKOTBSB – The Album
1. “Step By Step” – New Kids On The Block
2. “I Want It That Way” – Backstreet Boys
3. “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” – New Kids On The Block
4. “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” – Backstreet Boys
5. “Please Don’t Go Girl” – New Kids On The Block
6. “As Long As You Love Me” – Backstreet Boys
7. “Hangin’ Tough” – New Kids On The Block
8. “Larger Than Life” – Backstreet Boys
9. “I’ll Be Loving You (Forever)” – New Kids On The Block
10. “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” – Backstreet Boys
11. “All In My Head” – NKOTBSB
12. “Don’t Turn Out The Lights (D.T.O.T.L.)” – NKOTBSB
13. NKOTBSB Mash Up

I understand most of the choices—although I’d probably swap “Larger Than Life” for “Shape of My Heart,” because I resent the lack of love for Black and Blue. What about you, Mixers?

I agree with you completely. I actually voted for Shape of My Heart. I was a little disappointed that there weren’t more songs from the later albums (Black and Blue included)

    • Kelcie

Yes! Shape of My Heart is a gorgeous ballad and in a lot of way epitomizes the Backstreet Boys.

Don’t get me wrong, I love NKOTB and will be going to as many shows as possible…but I wish they’d STOP with the old songs! Their new CD was amazing — wish they would have offered songs from The Block as options for voting. I get it, this CD is for the fans that haven’t been around the past 2 years…just hope they do another one in the near future for those of us who have carried them! XOXO

I did vote, but not for many old old NKOTB songs. I’d rather some from Face the Music and hoped some from The Block. Never much of a BSB fan but like the mashup. Will see them in Otown and I’m sure they won’t disappoint.

So are they re-recording Step by Step, I Want It That Way, etc. between the nine of them? Or is this just a Greatest Hits compilation divided between the two bands?

  • Brie

I would swap out “Step by Step” with either “Call it What You Want” remix or “Click Click Click”. I know it’s one of their ‘classics” but to me it’s overplayed.

They should have chosen something from The Block from 2008–I thought that album was good with the edgy pop numbers and the mature love themes. Click Click Click is a good electro-pop number with its icy synths.

I know I voted for ‘Call It What You Want’ , I love that song, it would of been AWESOME!!!

  • AC

Millennium was my favorite album so I picked anything off of that. I’m all right with these. All the fans have all the albums so we can make our own mixes.

  • allie

if bsb and hanson collaborate, i will be so freakin happy!! that will be the best day ever!

Would love to see something from BSB from the newer albums. Their last few discs have been great. Siberia, Helpless when She Smiles, Weird World, What Makes You Different, & The Call would be great songs that could be released again. Whatever they sing, I’m looking forward to the concert! See ya there, Sandra.

    • Elizabeth

HELLS YES on Siberia! So underrated.

      • Michele

I think that would be my favourite BSB song ever…you’re right, completely under-rated.

    • Anabela

Siberia is seriously my favorite BSB song ever. It’s so beautiful and I have no idea how many times I’ve cried just because of the sheer beauty of it.

never was really a fan of NKOTB but i am a huge BSB fan..really wish Shape of My Heart was on there instead of Larger than Life..oh and Incomplete as well..love that one! :)

  • PN

I would have liked both groups to contribute new songs to the album, not just live on the old songs so much. Such as 5 new songs by New Kids on the Block and 5 by Backstreet to hear how they sound vocally today as well as the 2 songs with both groups together and the mashup song. But it’s a well put together album to capitalize on their upcoming tour. And I’m not that much a fan of Shape of My Heart as the writer wanted a switch of songs–too bland.

Would’ve liked having Show me the meaning of being lonely in there.

    • Rock Golf

That has to be the dumbest song title in history. If you are showing something to another person, by definintion, you cannot be lonely. You’re with another person!
Now if it had been called “Show Me the Meaning in Being Lonely”, that would have made sense. I’m alone. Is there a meaning to it?
Thanks, I’ve been bottling that rant since 1995 and it hasn’t aged well.

      • Cantu

How can you bottle a rant for something that you had no cause to rant about until four years later, in 1999? Hmmmm….

  • Dorha

i also voted 4 Shape of my heart n it shld hav been ther bt i dont think it means we dont love Black n Blue

  • gaby

still a huge & proud Backstreet boys fans and I was expecting to get Don t want you back or 10000 promises on the joint album. Really happy to see how the band is on the eye of the USA media!

  • Maria Sticco

Love BSB but there are MANY songs better than “Quit Playing Games.”

    • Rachel

True as that may be… “Quit Playing Games” was one of their biggest earliest hits, if not the first. It was the first song I ever heard by them, so I think it has earned its place on this album. I also agree with above comments about including shape of my heart and/or incomplete. Their newest albums are underrated. Wish I heard about this sooner and coulda voted. That and about tour dates 2 shows in Boston and too late to buy tix to either. Sad.

  • Sarah

Love BSB, but I wish their later albums got more love too… The Never Gone tour was the best tour of theirs I’ve ever seen, definitely besting Backstreet’s Back, Millennium and Black & Blue and Unbreakable was amazing too. A little less love for This is Us, but not much less. “Crawling Back to You” is my sister’s and my official driving song. Love it!

    • Pat

I agree. I loved the direction the guys were going in on Never Gone better and enjoyed their show that year more than last year. That said, it’s just all different degrees of wonderful, so I won’t complain :-)
