Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj touring together? Yes, it's finally official

spears-minaj

After Enrique Iglesias begged off becoming an homme fatale — and denying us the much-coveted “Hold It Against Me”/“Tonight” mash-up — Britney Spears was left without an opening act for her huge upcoming tour.

After a few weeks of speculation and a lot of false starts, Spears finally confirmed this morning that chart-topping rapper Nicki Minaj will indeed join her on the road for the Femme Fatale tour.

Tickets for the tour, which will also feature Nervo and Jessie and the Toy Boys, go on sale April 30, and the show itself kicks off June 16 at the Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento.

“This is the Femme Fatale tour and I’m thrilled to have the hot Nicki Minaj join me and Jessie and the Toy Boys and Nervo will get everyone on the dance floor,” Spears said in a (not entirely grammatical) statement. “Can’t wait to take the Femme Fatales on the road.”

Signing Minaj is quite the coup for Britney, as Nicki already has a platinum album to her name (2010′s Pink Friday) and substantial onstage experience (she spent the better part of the last 18 months on various tours with the Young Money crew, lead by label boss and mentor Lil Wayne). Plus, she has a penchant for crazy wigs, wild fashion, and strange accents, which essentially makes her the nth-degree rapping version of Spears herself.

And now that we know the two ladies will be crossing the country together, it’s time to speculate what they’ll collaborate on. While their catalogs don’t gel particularly well, they do have a common ally in Black Eyed Peas producer will.i.am.

So we’re calling it right now: If there isn’t some sort of “Check It Out”/“Big Fat Bass” mash-up/tag-team/brouhaha at some point during the course of the Femme Fatale tour, consider us disappointed.

Didn’t Pink Friday sell more records the first week than Femme Fatale?

  • Tom

And wasn’t it on a Thursday, the day before Friday?

  • Dave

Yeah, Pink Friday sold 375,000 its first week. 278,000 for Femme Fatale.

To be fair, that was in november when many more people buy album sales. It was so competitive then that nicki debuted in second place behind kanye, sales were fueled by black friday and christmas shopping. Comparisons aren’t fair

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to put Britney down or anything, I was just answering Emma’s question.

Not really. Rihanna (Rated R) and Adam Lambert both had albums out in Dec 09 and neither sold that well in its first week. Time of the year is not relevant, an album can sell well any time of year if people are willing to buy. Sade sold very well in Feb ’10.

Fancypants, time of the year is definitely relevant.

I’m skipping this one. I’m going to enough concerts this year.

    • Ash

ENOUGH?! I could never have “enough” concerts!

I can’t wait to see Britney again live. Plus, I love Nicki and the Nervo Sisters are great too!

Nicki Minaj is going to overshadow Britney.

    • justin

      • MT

        Not really.

This is a much better match up then Enrique. I was disappointed that he was gonna be the opener. No matter what I was gonna be there but now I’m looking forward to the opener…I’ve heard she puts on a good show.

  • PN

I would like them to perform Big Fat Bass together on stage and hear Nicki’s own raps in an unplanned way–she’s good at coming out of nowhere with her raps.

  • Matthew

This is good for NIcki Minaj. She’s going to be performing in arena’s now instead of smaller venue’s. Once she gets more material that is known to people she will, I am sure put on a great show by hersel
