Eminem's 'Space Bound' video: Suicide and porn stars - Watch it here!

Even though he has album sales in the tens of millions, a continuously budding film career, and a commitment to sobriety, Eminem still lets women get under his skin.

Such is the case in the just-released video for “Space Bound,” one of the more emo tracks from the mega-platinum 2010 album Recovery.

The clip, directed by Joseph Kahn (who also pointed the camera at Eminem for his “Love the Way You Lie” video last year), co-stars porn star Sasha Grey as Slim Shady’s source of torment.

The pair do a lot of driving at night and end up at seedy diners, and Eminem wrestles with himself (sometimes via split screen) and ultimately decides to take his own life. Or does he? Check out the dark, jarring video after the jump.

This is the fourth video from Recovery, following “Not Afraid”, the aforementioned “Love the Way You Lie” and “No Love.” It’s by far the darkest series of clips in Em’s career, with nary a scene of Mr. Mathers dressing up like a washed up celebrity in sight. The level of maturity matches the overall energy and attitude of Recovery. (Of course, he clearly saved up his wackiness for his Bad Meets Evil project.)

Where do you think “Space Bound” ranks among Eminem’s videos? Is this actually darker than “Stan”? Sound off with your Slim Shady-related opinions in the comments.

  • No Love?

It’s actually the fourth video. You forgot the best song from Recovery, “No Love.”

    Eminem needs mental help badly.

I love this song, but the video would have been better with a more compelling actress; that girl was totally vacant and dull—just a pretty face with no substance. Em should have chosen someone talented enough to be on screen with him.

Disturbing scene with the gun. He’s intense.

  • SaraS

One of my favorite tracks from the album.

  • Jon

It’s as emo as the song. Casting near-mainstream-porn-star-of-the-moment Sasha Grey is bad enough. The slo-mo suicide shot puts it truly over the edge into pure awfulness. What a cliche-ridden, posturing mess.

My name is Jon. I write cynical reviews of music videos on message boards. Maybe if I use phrases like “clich-ridden posturing mess” EW will hire me to do all of their reviews..

Thanks, Vinny. You missed a comma.

      • Bill

Thanks, Jon. Nobody will ever miss you.

      • Jon

Thanks, Bill. Who the f— asked your opinion?

      • Ted

Hey Bill dude, we should like, go back in time, and like have a totally awesome adventure and kill Jon’s mom before he is born PERIOD

  • DGH

Sorry but that song doesn’t come close to being Eminems darkest song. You should give “Kim” a listen now that is some dark music.

  • Preston

hey Bill, Jon, Vince, and Ted, shut the f**k up

I agree that Space Bound isn’t his darkest song, and it’s not darker than Stan either. It’s my 2nd favorite song from Recovery though, and the music video was outstanding, though a little difficult to understand. But whatever, he looked totally sexy in it. The only thing I have to ask is why the music video didn’t come out earlier, because I was waiting forever to see it! Secondly, there should’ve had more singles from Recovery because there are some really other great tracks in there too.

I personally think it’s his best video ever! It needs to be recognized for sure!!! It really hits home for a lot of us I believe.
