Haley Reinhart signed to Interscope Records

She’s weird and she’s wonderful — and now she’s got a record deal, too! American Idol contestant Haley Reinhart has officially been signed to 19 Entertainment/Interscope Records, a rep for the label confirms. Haley, who slinked and growled her way through constant criticism and into third place during the most recent season of Idol, is currently working on a debut album.

The deal marks yet another achievement in what has been a particularly good year for Idol contestants who didn’t take the crown. Runner-up Lauren Alaina was quickly signed to Mercury Nashville Records following the completion of the show, and ninth-place finisher Pia Toscano, who, like Haley, nabbed an Interscope deal, has already released a debut single, “This Time.”

This deal makes a lot of sense: Adele is dominant right now, and in the wake of Amy Winehouse’s tragic death, people are all the more reminded that they enjoy female singers with a good bit of raspy soul. Haley Reinhart would fit right into that niche.

Good for her. She’s a great singer and she deserves it. At least she got something worthwhile out of this joke of a season.

    • zhua

Good news for Haley! Pia’s single has not been released for radio adds. It is TBD on how well it will do. People were proclaiming Kris Allen’s cover of The Script’s song a failure when it came out too.

      • k

Can you please fix your post comment button. Your website is crap.

      • didi

, the devil is in the details And that could not be more tarucace right here. Having said that, permit me say to you what exactly did give good results. The article (parts of it) is definitely really convincing and this is probably why I am making an effort in order to comment. I do not make it a regular habit of doing that. Second, while I can certainly see the jumps in reason you make, I am not necessarily certain of just how you seem to unite your points which in turn help to make your final result. For now I will, no doubt subscribe to your point however wish in the near future you actually connect the dots better.

    • KLH

I think she is the most talented and interesting Idol contestant in years.

      • rdd

Haley is a very mediocre singer really don’t see doing a whole lot really…whats being said its a tiny little record deal no where near scotty, lauren and pia’s deals!

      • T2

Go Haley! And the KLH is back! :)

      • gigity

Ignore the idiots that tell you she’s not good. The size of the record deal doesn’t matter. The quality of the record does. Nothing Scotty will do will ever come close to what Haley is capable of for the simple fact that Haley can sing and Scotty can’t.

      • @rdd

so sorry about your hearing loss, I hope someone can help you with that. As for the rest of us who can hear just fine… SHINDIG!!!

      • Squishmar

I totally agree KLH! I’m very excited to hear what Haley comes out with. I love her voice. Isn’t that a great picture of her above? I love the dress!

      • CM2

@rdd care to supply a source to that? Where have you found any info out about the contracts given to Haley or Pia?

She will out sell them all probably combined is my prediction.

      • Brian Wallace-Cavill

Well, this should last all of ten minutes.

      • Miguel

rdd is one of those Haley haters who likes to make up lies about her:

“whats being said its a tiny little record deal no where near scotty, lauren and pia’s deals!”

rdd doesn’t know any more details about the deal than anyone else.

Scotty may have a bigger deal in that as the winner of American Idol he is tied to a contract for 10 years.

But that is not necessarily an advantageous thing for him.

    • jj

      this made my day.

      • Emma

Yes, mine too, oh happy day!!! I absolutely luv Haley’s voice, I could listen to it all day long. Can’t wait to buy the new album. Woot!!!

    • BFD

Big effin’ deal. Haley’s a mediocre talent from the most dismal season ever.

      • Haley rocks

You’re right, it is a big effin’ deal. Way to go Haley, so happy for you!!!!! She made season 10 interesting and I can’t wait to hear her new tunes! HAY-LEE, HAY-LEE, HAY-LEE!!! :D

      • Miguel

Go back to your mother’s basement, troll.

    • Meg Clements

I think Haley Rinehart is a fabulous singer. I can’t wait to hear her on the radio and be able to buy her music. She is as beautiful and genuine as she is talented. I hope she gets all she has dreamed about.

      • Lori

More of a question than a mmcoent. I have been doing CF, MilitaryAthlete, and CrossfitEndurance in a mix fir about a year and a half and have seen significant results. I have two questions, I’m looking at following the Crossfitendurance website on Monday’s and Thursday’s using the run portion in the morning and the CFE Strength and Conditioning workouts in the afternoon. I plan on using militaryathlete on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s and Saturdays. Does this sound like a bad idea to anyone or does anyone have any thoughts? Due to my current profession in LE, I feel that I get more durability and strength from militaryathlete, however, their running program is subpar, so I supplement w/CFE. I’ve been doing this for some time, however, due to work requirements, it has been a little inconsistent and w/my new position, im really able to allocate the time to plan it out a little better. I also wanted to get some feedback from those more experienced than I. Secondly, I started today w/week 7, day 1. Should I go back to week 1, day 1? I did 6x400m runs w/times of 1:27, 1:30, 1:29, 1:29, 1:28. The afternoon workout will be around 6 tonight.

Everything does not come back to Amy Winehouse. She had a brilliant voice & she squandered it. The end.

    • Tarc

Such ignorance. Winehouse was brilliant and troubled – perhaps they were the same thing in her case. After all, there has been a long list of brilliant singers that died much too soon. Addiction is a disease with strong genetic roots.

    • Jose Arribas

Amy is mentioned because she’s in the forefront of these news these days because of her untimely death. Show some respect, idiot.

      • Rex-Steele

Respect?? for a drunk and addict? Come on…really?

      • @ Rex-Steele

Show some respect for her as a human being, as someone’s daughter, someone’s sister, someone’s friend. If you are going to ignorantly sum her up as simply a ‘drunk and addict’ then it’s only fair to sum you up as ‘idiotic and uncompassionate.’

  • Craig

She’s the only contestant from this season I want to hear more of.

    • SDTim

      Me too!

    • HaleyFan

Agreed! She had me at “Blue” early in the season.

    • Ghost of Kelly Clarkson

Me, three! I hope her dad plays on at least one of the cuts — they were fantastic together!

    • jaded

For sure! She’s the only thing that made the last 7 weeks or so interesting.

    • Cheshire

Me four! Love her voice, can’t wait for the new album!!!

    • Cat

      Me three!

    • Dave

    • Shawnuel

      Amen, Craig.

Actually, I might buy an album by Kendra Chantelle, who was axed because of the producers need to fill a quota (the American voting public is definitely NOT colorblind), as well as Tim Halperin, whose indie debut I have enjoyed for several months now.

  • MEG

Can we also remind people that Pia’s single has completely flopped on radio? (which proves American Idol rabid fandom not always leads to success. Remember never-on-the-bottom-two, always-raved-about Taylor Hicks, who actually won and who never managed to become a major recording success?

    • Billy

True. Despite finishing 9th place, she’s Fox’s golden girl and they are promoting the hell out of her. Featuring this song on the SYTYCD adverts. Devoting an entire American Idol audition commercial with a minute of this song playing, to Pia solely with interviews & baby pictures & audition footage, none of the others contestants or the winner even appear. She performed it on Dancing With The Stars.
She appears in more numbers on the AI tour than anyone,She is loved by Fox and by Interscope, no doubt, but so far the public doesn’t seem to think she’s as big a deal as they do. The song is still only #180 on itunes. and Radio is completely ignoring it.

      • Emma

LOL! Yep. The problem is that although she is technically a solid singer, both her voice and her persona are boring, run-of-the-mill, a dime a dozen. In today’s pop world, you can’t just be a good singer, heck, you DON’t EVEN HAVE TO BE A GOOD SINGER, but you have to have something…that whole “I don’t Know What” that makes you stand out. Pia doesn’t have it. She’s gorgeous and has a decent enough voice, but she is absolutely bland and generic as a performer.

      • Anonymous

Exactly. There was a reason she was sent home early. She was so dull.

      • Shander22

Pia has a strong voice but she can’t seem to show any emotion other than Determination (not a bad emotion but not enough) She needs to be able to show a vulnerablity, sympath, a warm sort of desire, poignent regret .. soft joy an optomism.. songs require more than determination or a bit of anger.

Also, she would do well to spend some time singing jazz standards, country standards, rock standards and listen to classic eric clapton or and louis armstorng , and maybe imitate bing crosby while practicing and she’ll bring a hint more musically understanding to her modern phrasing

      • Fridge

She didn’t perform her single on DWTS, she sang something else and it sounded like an American Idol audition, not like an amazing recording artist. I had never heard her until that results show and having heard all the comments about what an amazing singer she was I was ready to be blown away. However, she comes across as a third rate Celine Dion wanna be, she’s certainly no Kelly or Carrie.

    • Tarc

Can we also remind people that the first single off most albums doesn;t do well? Or can we remind them that most of the time, it’s the SONGWRITING, not the singer, that makes the song. I’m not even a Pia fan and I think your comment is ridiculous.

      • anonymous

Actually the first single off a lot of big albums do sell well/get loads of airplay, or at least they used to. Not saying that is always the case – just that it often is. The jury’s still out on Pia. I say ‘good for Haley’ for at least getting a deal.

      • B-scot

The song is catchy and Pia has a great voice but in this cast they don’t match well enough for it to be a hit. Pia seems to lose her magic when she sing faster, so her singing uptempo song somewhat slowly is the only way to go with her.

      • Sue

I’d have to disagree – I think its both the singer and songwriter that make the song, dependingont he song. Without Kelly Clarkson’s great voice would a treacly, cr***** song like “A Moment Like This” have gotten anywhere? Would about half of Mariah Carey’s or Whitney Houston’s or Celine Dion’s songs gotten anywhere if not for their voices (and I’m not by any means a fan of these singers/songs?)

      • PN

It has to be everything, the singer, the songwriter, the music that backs up the single to make it do well. It’s kind of hit or miss to me that the first single does well for most singers. Sometimes the second or third single by that singer does well.

    • @meg

If there was rabid fandom she would not have been voted off. TWIT!

      • Mike

I won’t pretend to be a Haley fan, because I wasn’t but…umm…rabid fandom may have been what kept her in the competition until the top 3.

      • PN

I wasn’t into Haley her first few performances. But as late April or early May came along, her performances were getting a little better. I was more impressed how she put more into her performances with the singing.

      • Miguel

Considering her audience skews older and includes a lot of first-time Idol voters and others that didn’t vote dozens or hundreds of times like the “rabid” teen base of the two others, she did alright — first in the not-country-music category

    • PN

I think that radio doesn’t always go for someone else coming right off of American Idol. They went for Scotty’s song, but they haven’t been wild about Pia’s single. They wait until the second single to really get into them more. They’re kind of hesistant to play it too, so worried that it’s going to sound like it’s coming right off of TV. They like a strong kind of song and originality, without all the bells and whistles and perfect production handed to the singer.

    • Jason

Taylor Hicks is a millionaire and is now making a living off music. Not everyone has to sell millions of albums to be successful. Are you a millionaire?

      • @ Jason

Is he actually a millionaire? How do you know this? According to Forbes magazine, his total earnings since winning American Idol is $300,000.00. Not bad for a 34 year old considering you can earn that much being a lawyer or surgeon but a far cry from being a millionaire.

    • Trish

That’s the problem with Pia. Her fandom wasn’t rabid enough. She got kicked out at top 9. Haley’s fan base, much more influential,And she’s got a voice that will win over outsiders.

    • Angel

I intended to atrcee you a bit of word just to thank you so much as before for the spectacular views you have shared in this case. This is quite unbelievably generous of people like you to give publicly precisely what a few people could have marketed for an ebook to make some bucks for their own end, even more so now that you might have done it if you ever wanted. These thoughts as well worked like the good way to recognize that other people online have the identical keenness really like my very own to understand a great deal more in respect of this condition. I know there are thousands of more pleasant occasions in the future for people who see your site.

    • Giovanna

Thank you for the blog post. Jones and I have already been saivng for a new ebook on this subject matter and your blog post has made people like us to save all of our money. Your opinions really solved all our questions. In fact, over what we had known before we came upon your excellent blog. I actually no longer nurture doubts and a troubled mind because you have clearly attended to all of our needs in this article. Thanks

  • Yo

    Go Haley!

  • John

This article is a joke. Reinhardt is no Adele, and she is certainly no Winehouse. This will be another AI reject that fizzles fast and goes back into obscurity before you can say “AI”!

    • Tarc

Wow! I want that crystal ball you’ve got! Knowing the future… must be nice.

      • Mike

No crystal ball needed. Just the law of averages. Look at AI’s history. How many AI alumni (winners or contestants) have actually become successful, and managed to get consistent careers? Kelly and Carrie, that’s it. Please don’t tell me that Daughtry and Clay did too, because I am talking about CONSISTENT. Those two have flopped in their last endeavors.

      • Cheshire

I think Haley has enough talent, passion and unique-ness to join Kelly and Carrie in the successful column. My fingers are crossed for her and I’ll be supporting her all the way. Yay Haley!!!

      • Jason

Daughtry sold four million records. What have you done?

    • Satchvai

Does it bother you that an AI “reject” might actually be pretty f’n incredible? I’ll check back here next year just so I can laugh at you.

      • BFD

More likely that I’ll be checking back to laugh at YOU.

      • Hoang

Did the swim workout today 12 100 on 2:30. All 12 were beetwen 1:33 and 1:36.I did the WOD from the local box this afternoon and it was a beast Against a 30 Minute continuously running clock, Perform the following WOD where after completing each movement for 30 reps, you must perform as many burpees as possible with the remaining 3 minutes:3 Minutes…30 Box jumps, 24/20″3 Minutes…30 Pull-ups3 Minutes…30 Thrusters, 95/65lb3 Minutes…30 Kettlebell swings, 55/35lb3 Minutes…Overhead Walking Lunges (45/25lb), 30 steps3 Minutes…30 Knees to elbows3 Minutes…30 Push press, 95/65lb pounds3 Minutes…30 Power Clean, 95/65lb3 Minutes…30 Wall ball shots, 20/14lb3 Minutes…30 Double undersYou may perform the WOD in any order you wish. Subtract 5 burpees from your score each time you’re unable to complete the 30 reps within the 3 minute interval.I did everything RX except the Thrusters (65) and the KB Swings (35). Total Burpees = 55. No penalties (although I was close on the double unders). I couldn’t feel my arms at the end and had to lay on the floor for awhile

    • buzz

John, you came to an article on music to look for comedy…pull your head out…I just said “AI” and Haley is still so far superior to anything you could write or sing. We’ll still be following her long after we have forgotten about you.

    • B-scot

Haley did the best this year of all the non country singers and if the producers get her some great songs she could do very well both in US and Europe.

      • Jerry

i am in love with you, your camera, this clopue, your processing, your blog oh it’s just too much. thank you for being so incredibly amazingly awesome! :) the inspiration has just come through this computer to me. hallelujah. ;)

    • PN

I don’t think she’s Adele or Amy either. But she’s another singer in that area of those strong soul singers with a raspy voice and can sing over live instrumentation.

    • kennyW

That is completely true. Her album will flop, especially if they release it after the next season of Idol begins. In fact, her Walmart EP already flopped, despite the internet buzz. From the looks of it, she will be lucky if she becomes even half as famous as Melinda Doolittle or Allison Iraheta or those other Idol rejects who are far more talented than her.

      • Lani

She will flop with because she doesn’t sing pop or country? Wow it must nice to live in a small mind set. I love the fact Haley is a throwback to the 60’s and 70’s.

      • kennyW

@Lani – No one said it’s because she doesn’t sing pop or country. You must be too drunk on Haley-flavored Kool-aid and already imagining things. First, let’s get this straight. Haley sings pop and country songs. If you’ve seen her performances on Idol, you will know that she does.

She will flop, not because of her genre (what is her genre, even?) because at this point, by the time her album comes out, most of the buzz from her season of Idol will have been all but gone. And let’s face it. She’s really not that appealing post-season, if her Walmart EP sales are any indication (She sold the LEAST among the top 4 on the first week, and never really recovered). If she couldn’t keep people interested less than 2 months after she got eliminated, there’s no reason to believe her debut album sales will be spectacular if she releases an album in January.

  • The Hypnotoad

‘The end’? Oh god, you remind me of that SVU episode with the annoying little girl who said ‘the end’ after EVERY sentence.

  • Nancy

Fantastic! I will buy her music, can’t wait!

  • Carol

Haley is my favorite from all the seasons of AI. I already purchased from itunes and will absolutely buy her album.

    • Eh?

If Haley is your favorite from all the seasons, you must have terrible taste in music or you really should get your ears checked.

      • Jason

        I agree with Carol.

      • @ Eh?

Or maybe YOU are the one who has terrible taste in music and should be running off to go get your ears checked. Everyone has different opinions and has the right to choose their favorites – just because their choice differs from yours doesn’t mean they are wrong.

  • RM

Good news for Haley! Pia’s single has not been released for radio adds. It is TBD on how well it will do. People were proclaiming Kris Allen’s cover of The Script’s song a failure when it came out too.

  • Emma

Tons of songs start smashing long befored being officially added.

  • Dumbledore Fluffernutter

Just like with any other aspiring recording artist, whether you become huge or not all depends on your material. It’s the song, not the singer.

    • Posey

This is pretty much true. Let’s hope they get her the quality of songwriters that her voice deserves.

    • B-scot

Haley show that she could cover a wide range of sounds and mostly make them work but hits songs are the key to air play and sales so like on the show picking the right songs is key.

  • MC

I’m slightly in love with Haley. Hopefully she can really be herself on this album.

  • CC

Wow! Sensational news. i was going to go down to the bakery and see the new bread slicer, but now I’m gonna sit here and wait for her CD. YAWN!

  • Brady

HALEY is one of the most esciting and unique singers to ever compete on Idol… can’t wait to buy her album!
