Stevie Nicks rasps through 'Edge of Seventeen' on 'America's Got Talent': Watch it here

Stevie Nicks is having a pretty big week.

That episode of South Park that sets its closing montage to Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” was on again last night, and she hit the stage with the men of Maroon 5 for a run through of “Leather and Lace” on Monday. Then she made another live appearance on Wednesday, strolling out onto the America’s Got Talent set and plowing through her undisputed classic “Edge of Seventeen.”

Since America’s Got Talent has been doing crazy ratings numbers, you probably went ahead and watched this live. But just in case you didn’t, feast your eyes on Stevie and her witchcraft after the jump:

Nicks starts out pretty strong, and the crowd certainly seems into it (mostly because “Edge of Seventeen” is a fantastically intense song with a killer hook), but there are an awful lot of missed notes in there. Though she looks great and performs with confidence, she’s pretty much blown off the stage by her back-up singers.

While a little bit of rasp is usually good for a song as cutting as “Edge of Seventeen,” Nicks sounds like she’s been smoking two packs of Camels simultaneously through the exhaust pipe of a Lincoln Continental. And let’s face it, that’s too much rasp.

But what do you think? Should we cut Stevie some slack because she’s a bona fide legend, or should she stick to making cameos in videos starring Beyoncé? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

I think this is actually better than I’ve heard her sing lately. I’m a longtime fan, but think her best days are behind her. Some days I think she’s ruining her legacy.

    • Bungo

Yeah, her voice is long gone. Can’t blame her for tryin’ though. I’m sure some people will buy tickets. The “new single” was extremely forgettable. It didn’t have anything remotely resembling a “hook”. It sounded a lot to me like a song Bob Dylan gave her out of pity.

Couldn’t agree more!!!! Have been going to Stevie and FM concerts since the 70’s and she sounds great. Her voice just gets better and better and no her back-up singer did not over-sing her. I have hear Edge of 17 thousands of times and she did it just like always and throws in a few adlibs to keep the song alive for the audience. If Boynce is so great why did they have to steal Stevie’s song?

Get that pipe out of your mouth and when you come down listen to her again. She writes songs for so many artists I hardly think anyone has to write songs for her. She is a true artist not just puppet on a stage that has been shown every move to make and every note to sing.

  • pop

yet she still sings better than taylor swift.

    • vera

Exactly. And Rhianna and all the like. The woman is almost 70, good for her.

      • jasper

        she is 63. that isn’t almost 70

    • Ed Whittler

      yes she does…

  • PJ

Why didn’t you review her performance of her new single?

  • Paulie

    too much rasp? it’s perfect.

  • Linda

I enjoyed her performances on AGT. She made it work.

    • Michael

I agreed. I missed hearing Stevie Nicks for all this time.

  • John

No problems with Stevie, but I do have problems with Jeff Labrecque insulting her. I guess you’re just upset the store was out of glitter and pink boas today, Jeff. See, I can make snarky insults too!

    • jasper

hahahahaha. i was thinking the exact same thing.

  • Carole

The rasp isn’t there anymore. She gave up smoking a long time ago. She is still amazing, still blowing my mind.

  • Vince from NYC

I thought it was bad, her new single even worse. It didn’t even sound like singing.

    • Betty

Vince, what do you consider singing. She is one of the few “singers” out there. I bet you love rap!

  • Kevcogator

I saw it and I saw her on DWTS a while back. It is so sad. I was a Fleetwood Mac fan and a fan of Stevie Nicks back in the day – but she has lost it. People who think it was great either don’t remember how great she was or are deluding themselves with images of past grandeur.

    • PJ

She had pneumonia for that performance.

  • Kan

Seriously…complaining about Stevie’s rasp is so tired & irrelevant. Give the woman a break – she is in her 60s and has been a singer for over 40 years. She still brings a lot more to the stage than most young stars.

    • Roger B

Stevie is The Queen, She sounds awesome. Alot of newcomers should take note. This is how you do it, Become a legend. And you dont need backup dancers and cone bra’s. I prefer class, and Stevie is true class

  • robert j

I grew up on Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks as a soloist. It was just amazing to see her back on stage. Yes, her voice may be a little bit more raspier and she can’t hit those big notes like she did but to watch her as performer is incredible. Love her.

  • book-nik

    Good Job Stevie

  • tulip55555

Where you running low on people to cut up today? Because I think she sounded great!!

  • julie from woostah

Stevie never disappoints. I have seen her time in time again over the last 30 years, most recently with Rod Stewart and she always knocks it out of the ballpark. I thought last nights performance was awesome!! keep it up Stevie, your ageless!!

  • njm

Stevie has the best voice ever for a female singer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She was great!
