Saturday night’s eighth annual Unity in the Park Festival in Cleveland, Ohio ended tragically when a large fight during Parliament Funkadelic legend George Clinton’s headlining set culminated with several blasts from a handgun, wounding three and killing a 16-year-old boy.

According to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, one victim, a 20-year-old woman who was shot in the neck, remains in critical condition while the other two, a 14-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man, are stable.

Police are uncertain exactly what started the fight in Cleveland’s Luke Easter Park, nor how many people were involved or what the shooter looks like (though they do know they are dealing with a single male suspect). No arrests have been made.

Lives shouldn’t be lost at a concert, end of story. As for those kind of stereotypical comments i usually expect to find here, i guess we’re too early to that party Hypnotoad.

What a shame…Clinton’s and Parliment’s music is all about “herbs”, peace, happiness and having a good time. Violence has no place in P-Funk!!!

    • Huh

Absolutely. Those concerts were once all about “hit it & pass it”. People mellow from the contact high, like at a Bob Marley concert. Only P-Funk’s fans were more likely to share the good stuff than those at the Wailers shows. That young dummy should have perked up his ears to get some knowledge from a music master; not starting beef and shooting folk.

A shooting at a rap concert? I’m so shocked. What’s next? A riot at a soccer match?

    • PeterBilt

      A rap concert? Really?

    • Jamica

George clinton is not a rapper…some people are so ignorant.

      • also

        Yes Jamica, spot on!
        George Clinton is pure funk.

JC, educate yourself, please. You are embarrassing.

Rap? Cause that’s the only music a brown guy can make, huh? Guess someone doesn’t understand a damn thing about where rock n roll comes from. Or, of course, about funk.

An idiot on the message board? I’m so shocked. What’s next? An overtly racist person on ew.com?

Idiots and As*Holes will always turn up where they aren’t wanted and ruin the fun, in this case a music loving funk-fest for everyone. Last weekend, at a vintage car show a half mile from my house, gang members from Calif. showed up (I’m just outside Seattle) and stared down some other people they didn’t apparently like the looks of, and before the kids at the show could even get their vintage mustage toy cars the show was giving away, shooting broke out, injuring 12 innocent bystanders. People bully for no reason, vandalize, drive recklessly, etc., but now I guess the game has reached level 10: The shooting and killing strangers who these people haven’t connection to, or problem with. Disgusting low-lifes.

probably youngsters…couldnt have been anyone who was truly a parliament/funkadelic/George Clinton fan!!!!
cause we just don’t get down like that…

The story is a little inaccurate, and yes, you’re right. In in Cleveland, though I wasn’t at the show, but I’ve heard that the concert was attended by a lot of people old enough to remember Clinton from his heyday (i.e. us old folks) and families with kids. Teens weren’t into the show, I’ve heard, and were at the back or milling around nearby. The shooting happened down the street. It’s been a real blow to people in the community. Hope the survivors pull through.
