The release of a much-anticipated collaboration between Lady Gaga and Cher—a song titled “The Greatest Thing,” written by Gaga and producer RedOne—is just around the corner: Yesterday, in response to a follower’s query about when the song would be out, Cher tweeted simply, “SEPTEMBER.” Here’s an appropriate response: Praise divas!

“The Greatest Thing” is set to be the lead single from Cher’s 26th studio album, which has been in the works for quite some time now. Last year, the superstar told EW that she was working with Diane Warren, the legendary songwriter behind Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me” and two tunes from Burlesque, including Cher’s power ballad “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me.”

“It really won’t be ‘Believe’-ish,” she said of the album at that early stage. “It will be more…I don’t know how to say it. I can’t put a genre to it. It’s a little bit more real instruments, like guitars and stuff like that.” As recently as June, Cher tweeted that her new, still untitled album will be “WAY DANCE.” (Could that be the title? Ha.)

No official release date has been set for the album or the single yet, but you can sleep soundly knowing that a sure-to-be-delicious diva collaboration—and a diva comeback!—is coming soon. Consider it your gift for being so good this summer.

Curious about “The Greatest Thing” and what it might sound like? You’re in luck, since a demo version of the song, sung in full by only Gaga, is on the nets. It sounds sort of “Believe”-ish, if you ask me. Enjoy it here:

    Gay dream explosion <3

    • Meg

LOL!!!! Damn, you beat me to eat! This will make gay men salivate and pant more than being the ham in a Hugh Jackman/Gerard Butler sandwich!!!

    • Andy

Count me as one of the gay men (maybe the only one) who could care less. Sorry.

      • aaron

i could care less what Bizarro madonna puts out at this point

      • Rob

        Aaron,

Bizarro Madonna??? Wow. You must be off your meds. Gaga’s weird attention whoring antics can fill up more space than the Declaration of Independence. Gaga had to resort to becoming a character 24/7 and wearing meat, kermits, and hay to garner attention. Gaga’s EGO is bigger than Texas….heck, even Rick Perry is jealous! Aaron thank you for downplaying Madonna’s appeal now. Yes, she just turned 53 and couldn’t care less what you thought of her…she keeps doing her thing….and millions of fans love it. There is nothing that Gaga is doing now that Madonna didn’t do first. Gaga was just lucky enough to thrust her career X10 with social media while Madonna just had MTV (when it was considered a music channel). BTW, Gaga’s self proclaimed CD of the decade, which spawned BTW, the single, the self proclaimed gay anthem of the universe, is pretty much a butt kisser to the gays. So, thank you Aaron for making me realize that Gaga’s fans are the true bullies and monsters. You deserve each other.

  • Paul

These two men did a great job!

    • NonEntity

If I could turn back time, I’d find a way, take back all the Cher and Goo Ga and throw it into the bay. These men have powerful voices though.

  • January James

Cher is partly Armenian and her artistic ability comes from her Armenian heritage.

    • Templar

      ROFL

  • Agustin

Is this a Gaga overexposure? We need a break!

    • Michael

She has no chemistry with Cher. It really felt very weak as a love song! Lady Gaga has definitely been oversaturated.

    • Christine

Michael said, “She has no chemistry with Cher.” HOW can you judge when you haven’t heard her with Cher???? This is the demo Gaga did by herself, fool!

    • Carolyn91

she needs to go back to her fame days. This ga ga is too wierd for my taste ill pass

  • Jules

    2:12 and still no Cher…Huh??

    • Leithen

Didn’t read the last paragraph of the article, did ya?

    • Tiffany

That is the demo, silly! Cher will be singing the version on the record, with Gaga adding her bits too.

  • Caz

Where the hekk is Cher? That song was all Gaga…

    • Grandmother

      suckers

  • Terry

DUH!!!!! Can any of you idiots READ???? This is a DEMO version of the song that Gaga made a long time ago. Chances are this song is going to be TOTALLY redone with Cher putting her stamp on it and Gaga re-singing it with stronger vocals. I’m sure it will sound a million times better once the OFFICIAL version comes out in September. Again for you idiots who can’t read, THIS IS A DEMO!!!!

    • True Blue

I really hope the finished version is indeed a million times better than this. This sounds like a leftover song from The Fame.

      • Corey

yeah i can see that// i just wished she had been more original with born this way. she hyped it way too much and left me dissappointed there is really nothing like fame monster other than britney and i cant stand her but ff is a pretty good album

    • Foaullin23

      FLOP

  • strangelover

Gaga made so many great unreleased songs. That is one. Good choice cher!

  • Nick

Thank your who all pointed out it was a DEMO to the people who can’t read. What idiots.

  • NonEntity

Goo Ga has made so many great unreleased songs and the thing that keeps them great is that they are unreleased.

  • DRG

    Oh the humanity!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL

    America loves crap.

    • Jillian

Who’s Cher? She looks like a transvestite? Nothing against transvestites!, but, is she one?

  • J. Shakespeare

It’s not going to be a duet. Check Cher’s tweets and do your homework. Gaga just gave her the song.

  • Danny

It IS going to be a duet. Cher has updated Twitter. But let me caution you: the single likely won’t drop until at least October … Sept. is less than 2 weeks away … and the album MAY street in late November … “Believe” was released in November 1998, FYI.

  • Rich

This will be epic on the dancefloors this FALL :)
