Two sibling bands, both alike in dignity, may have sparked a new family feud on the music scene: Kings of Leon (composed of the three brothers Followill and their cousin) vs. Hanson (three brothers, no cousin).
Isaac Hanson, 30, has called out the Kings for canceling their U.S. tour, saying the band has let their fans down. “The Kings of Leon guys are running some risks. They’re irritating people; you can’t do that too much,” Hanson told WENN.com. “Eventually the bad boy image affects fans’ willingness to show up.”
In case you wondered how he felt about it, Hanson added, “I have a hard time with musicians who act like pricks.”
“Everybody has their demons, everyone has their challenges,” he continued. “But you’ve gotta temper it because your fans are there. … I don’t wash my dirty laundry in public. I do my dirty laundry backstage.”
Kings of Leon famously cancelled their tour after frontman Caleb Followill suffered an onstage breakdown on July 29 in Dallas. Followill left the stage citing heat exhaustion, abandoning the show midway through performing; his brother Jared, however, later wrote on Twitter that there were “internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be addressed.” Caleb has since been put on vocal rest.
Family band squabbles—internal ones, at least—are nothing new in pop music (see: Oasis, The Jackson 5, the Kinks). Still, though, a developing feud between musical clans? Better still, between two bands whose members, by curious coincidence, almost all go by their middle names? …You’ve gotta admit, it’s tantalizingly rife with tribal smackdown potential certainly an intriguing prospect.
Where do you stand, Music Mix readers? Team Hanson or Team Followill?

Chart Flashback: 1997 – Hanson’s “MMMBop”

I haven’t walked in their shoes, but by all accounts the spotlight combined with creativity can be inordinately stressful. That being said, I wish them the best.
FIRST! And MMM-Bop all the way!
First what?
I have to say that they’re dead on with p-rick assessment. Caleb Followill comes off that way in every interview I’ve seen of the band. They’re pretty full of themselves for a band that essentially cribbed Bush’s “Glycerine” for the base of “Use Somebody”. Seriously; listen to Glycerine then the other. You’ll never be able to un-hear it.
I haven’t listened to Glycerine since about the late ’90s, but I remember the guitar parts in the song. And Use Somebody is very close to it. I don’t think King of Leon noticed it when they recorded the song.
Its a completely different chord progression. Glycerine is f,c,d,a#. use is a,c,f. strumming is similar but not the same.
EW this story is so old I had already forgotten it happened. I am pretty sure this all went down last week.
thanks for the plug…
What has Hanson done at all since having that one annoying song with no good lyrics just an annoying chorus? KOL have made 5 fantastic records in only 8 years plus have something Hanson will never get Grammys!!! Caleb is also suffering from a life threatening disease that they should put everything on hold for to treat, Hanson are just trying to get attention from a band who is currently much more popular then them, I was very dissapointed about KOL cancelling their tour as I had Pit Seats for Cincy, but I realized they will come back stronger then before and that I will have many more chances to see them. Hanson will never make songs as emotional or powerful as Cold Desert, Trani, Pyro, or Arizona, I’m not talking about the only 2 songs people that listen to cr*p music on the radio know about
Hanson actually has 5 records now I believe. They do a ton of charity work as well.
Have you listened to Hanson in the last decade, they are great musicians maybe not the best lyricists, but watch Strong Enough to Break and then talk about how they are trying to get press and they will never make great songs.
I commend Isaac Hanson for calling them out! Kings of Leon should have never canceled their summer tour. It’s not fair to their fans and the Kings should have braved it out with performing in those weather conditions, whether hot or cold.
As long as the Brothers Hanson bring some pigeons to the fight, they’ve got this battle won.
