Beyonce debuts music video for '1+1': Watch it here

Filed under: Music, News and tagged: , , , ,

Beyoncé first debuted “1+1″  on the season finale of American Idol back in May, and it, of course, appeared on her recent album 4. But now the pop diva has dropped a music video for the love vocals-focused love ballad.

Unlike the heavily produced spectacles Beyoncé often does, the video for “1+1″ is simple, much like the song itself: Beyoncé appears alone for the most of the clip, sometimes glittery, sometimes with water cascading all over her body. But she’s always: dramatic! And often with her hair blowing everywhere. (Those wind machines should get a cut of her profits.) But of course, this is Lady B we’re talking about, so that’s all standard. Would you expect anything else? The whole thing may be rather simple, but it’s hard to take your eyes off it.

Take a gander at the music video here:

What’s the verdict, Music Mixers? Love it? Hate it?

Beyonce needs to focus on the better songs on her album: End of Time, Party, I Care and Schoolin Life. Schoolin Life is probably the best song on the whole album and it’s not even a main track! It should’ve been the first single (instead of an extra track on some deluxe editions); it sounds like a hit song. I think 1+1 is a bit overwrought.

  • when doves cry?

Is it just me or does this remind anyone else of an 80s era Prince video (esp. with the guitar riff towards the end)? Not that this is a bad thing…

    • B

I completely agree, this song makes me think of Prince, it has a Prince quality to it.

      • Amanda

I love this video and this song….the song seems to be an answer song to Prince’s The Beautiful Ones, which Beyonce has sung(incredibly!) in concert in Las Vegas!! Loved it…she is so beautiful!!

    • BJohnson

Thank you. I was thinking the song itself as a mix of The Beautiful Ones and another song.

    • PN

This does remind you of some of Prince’s grandiose ’80s ballads like Beautiful Ones and even Purple Rain with how Beyonce sings it in 1+1. She sounds great vocally in it!

      • Christian, We’re Concerned

She isn’t fit to wear Prince’s assless chaps and high heel boots! Prince is a musical prodigy. Beyonce is a soulless hack with the personality of dry toast.

  • True Blue

Awful. I could do a way better job of directing a video for this.

    • Michael

I agree with you, Beyonce’ oversexed her image awhile ago. She should’ve found something else to make her video better. Maybe her husband. She made the video just like the song, absolutely bland.

  • Z

This better not be the next single. Countdown is the track that can get her another Top 10.

    • Kaye

Looks like third bomb single in a row.

      • Andre

It is not a single stupid. And BTINH hit no. 16 Hot 100 and no. 7 on R&B

    • Matt

Nah, it’s not a single. Nothing’s been annouced yet.

  • T

i Love it, the song is so true, Only if u have true love!!!….

  • Rashad

Just when I tought Beyonce couldn’t get any sexier, I watch this video and she is just DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!!!

  • BJohnson

It’s hard to get into if you’re just 1. LOL I am a Sasha fan so I will always prefer her faster dance songs.

  • max

Its a personal pet peeve, but you should never start a sentence with AND or BUT. You did both in this article. #imjustsayin

  • Ben

    The lyrics are truly awful.

  • me

wasnt she was working on party im confused lame ass video

    • AQS

Yes, “Party” (with a Kelly Rowland cameo!) is planned to be the third radio single from ’4.’ Not really sure why she decided to release this video if she wasn’t pushing “1+1″ for radio play. She also filmed a clip for “Countdown,” and there’s rumors that she’s working on a video for “End of Time.” She seems to be all about doing things on her own terms this era, so more power to her.

  • AQS

I want a Beyonce video where the clip ends and I don’t just think to myself, “Damn… She’s GORGEOUS…” Yes, Beyonce is stunning, but I want something more from her videos. Obsessed with the opening seconds, the gold glitter across her skin; from there on it’s all very pretty and sensual and a tad boring; A lot of the imagery could have been turned way up, it all felt like one of her perfume commercials. However, I do hope rumors that she’s doing another video anthology for the full album are true… She is picking AWFUL singles, as it’s almost like she doesn’t care about the album. Which any fan knows is NOT true, that ’4′ is Beyonce’s one true musical love child. “Countdown” should have been an early single; “Best Thing I Never Had” sounds like reheated “Irreplaceable,” “Run The World (Girls)” is a little too odd for a lead single and for Top 40 radio. “Schoolin’ Life” could be one of her best tracks ever, and it’s only a Target exclusive bonus track? I’m confused. Regardless, ’4′ is an absolute gem, and she seems so happy. Which is really all that matters.

    • Sherry

It seems she may be doing another anthology. She’s completed videos for Countdown, Party, End of Time and a couple more. I think it’s a good idea. Bday had the same issue until Irreplaceable and Beautiful Liar. 4 is a gem, I do agree. There are great songs on there and it’s success has a lot to do with positive word of mouth, fans. It also shows her staying power.

  • Tom

Tried to watch the above video, but it doesn’t work. Try youtube or something else.

  • Aaliyah

Queen B is magnificent! Glad she went with a more R&B sound on this album than that disposable euro trash that’s dominating the airwaves. This has been a good year for R&B…Jill Scott, Bey, Chris Brown & Marsha Ambrosious have done their thing this year.

    • Sherry

The euro stuff is destroying R&B as we know it. Wait, it’s destroying music as we know it. Whether people love or hate her, at least Beyonce bucks the auto tune trend and she’s not sounding like everyone else. I can’t tell artists apart anymore. Most of the new producers all jack each other’s sounds.

      • Phil

I can’t stand folks that make uninformed comments like ‘that euro stuff’…which I believe you are referring to danicer sounding pop & R&B songs. News flash, EVERY Beyonce single has had euro sounding remixes, whether you know of them or not. Everything is cyclical. Nothing is original, and if you think anything Beyonce is doing with this album is new or fresh, you also must think its a hit album…which its not. EW cant seem to write one HONEST piece on Beyonce this entire summer. WAKE UP CALL FOLKS, its been out for 2 months, “Best Thing I Never Had” dropped out of the top 20 on yesterday’s Hot 100 after peaking at 17….not EVEN TOP 15…the album isn’t resonating with fans, and honestly niether are the singles. Everyone wants to say gracious things, but what about when she re -releases “4″ in 2 months to capitalize on the holiday season, with new songs, which are gonna be dubbed as ‘she recorded over blah blah tracks for this album and scrapped em’.
And everyone hear commenting on how good “Countdown” is doesnt even mention that again its basically sampling an old Boyz II Men hit. This album is a failed experiment. I just wish the press would finally admit it.

      • Phil

My bad peaked at #16 not 17, but still not top 15. The song is done. Thats why she released this video today. To keep people talking graciously bout her while her label scrambles to set up an actual hit and try and save the project…aka re-release with new songs & singles.

      • rod

Are you kidding me Phil? The Boyz II Men sample is literally 5 seconds long. Countdown is one of the most inventive, creative songs out there and certainly the album’s best. When she releases it as a single it will be a smash!!!

    • Little comment

She kind of did that already with “Sweet Dreams” and “Telephone”

  • Jamie

I absolutely love Beyonce’s music, but I kept waiting for something to happen in this video. I get it, she’s beautiful, but swirling lights and tons of sexual innuendo? There could have been so much more. And her last video with her in lingerie? Eh…

    • Madox

The video made me sleepy. Nap time.
