No Doubt says first album in 10 years will now be their first album in 11 years

Earlier this summer, the members of No Doubt met up with Entertainment Weekly and pushed play on a handful of songs the group was working on for its first album in a decade. They said the still-untitled collection would be out before the end of the year.

Unfortunately, fans may have to wait a little longer still. In a statement on their website, they told the world that work on the new songs has been more involved than once predicted.

“Ideally our new record would be coming out this year but it’s just not ready yet,” the statement said. “We don’t want to rush this album just to get it out.  This collection of songs means everything to us and our only priority right now is to make sure that it’s the best album we can possibly make.  There is still more work for us to do.”

They assured fans that they would be kept abreast of the progress, and also noted that despite rumors about collaborations and producers dropping in, none of those should be trusted. “Please don’t believe anything you hear unless it comes from us,” the statement concluded.

Based on the tracks EW heard a few months ago, it sounds like the vibe lends itself more to a warm-weather release anyway, so why not wait to perfect the mix and hold out for a spring release? That would time everything out perfectly for a summer tour, which means that 2012 will be the year of No Doubt. Be prepared!

    It’s over.

Saw them twice when they reunited in 2009, I was even at the first show at the Borgata in Atlantic City. As a fan of music, esp. when groups reunite…if the magic in the studio doesn’t come together like synergy when everything else does…odds are its not going to for quite some time…I dunno if No Doubt are over…but Gwen is most certainly a mom now, and I dunno if getting her career back is evewr going tro be more important than being a mom. I’d like to hear more tunes since “Rock Steady” was a great pop album.

No album should take this long. Especially a No Doubt album. It’s turning into “Chinese Democracy, Part II.” If they are focused and commited, this thing should have been done a long time ago.

@Brian Wallace – I don’t think this is anything like “Chinese Democracy.” No offense to No Doubt, but they have never been as big of a band as Gun N’ Roses were in their prime, so the hype and expectations are not the same, IMO. Also, the members of No Doubt seem fairly humble and aren’t going around acting like this will be the greatest album ever, while Axl Rose seems delusionally egotistical about his place in today’s music scene.

I would rather them take their time and get it right, rather than rush out an album just for the sake of putting out an album.
@Phil – I too saw their reunion tour, in Atlanta, and it went way above my expectations. It was fun, and every member sang/played wonderfully. If anything, I think coming off a tour like that would make magic in the studio.

That was my whole point…if that tour didn’t inspire em to pump out the studio time and make some new hit tunes…what hope do we have that they’re in any earnest way to do so now? I mean, we didn’t even get a new single for the tour, just “Stand & Deliver” that they covered for Gossip Girl, but never even released…I think we’ll be waiting for quite some time.

I agree. I love No Doubt (and Gwen). Rock Steady was excellent. I still listen to it often. I can wait however, for them to get the music right. Once it’s done, we’ll have it for years to come.

By the time that next record and tour come out, that goofy drummer will be wearing an adult-diaper instead of a g-string!

Maybe they’re still recording some new songs. I can wait another year. I’d love to hear a good quality album from No Doubt. They still play their old songs on the radio and they still sound fresh and exciting. I think they are producing the album themselves instead of depending on outside producers. If that happens, it will give them the creative control they want to make their album sound great and rocking!!!!!

  • Flip

Well I’ve waited this long, so I can wait a little longer!

  • Calista

This was my most anticipated album of the year but now I’ll have to wait a bit! I am sure the wait will be well worth it though. Usually albums that take awhile are better than albums that don’t and Gwen is all about perfection. I am assuming we will see the album released in March maybe?

  • Anth

I’ll join the chorus of “I can wait a little longer” and I have…no doubt it’ll be worth the wait, but this still kinda bites.

  • Trisha

Sheesh, it’s been 2 years in the making. Hopefully it won’t suck.
