Like Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, and Jewel before him, Justin Bieber is putting out a Christmas album this holiday season. It’s called Under the Mistletoe, and while that title suggests that it should be a bunch of gingerbread-fueled Yuletide slow jams, it almost certainly won’t be that.
Still, it should be a little livelier than your usual rocking around the tree. The 15 tracks on Mistletoe are both originals and traditional tunes, and there are a bunch of drop-ins from big stars, including Usher, Boyz II Men, and Busta Rhymes (who we hope will battle rap Shawty Mane on a track called “Drummer Boy”).
But the biggest headline is the presence of Mariah Carey, who will perform a duet with Bieber on “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” The tune, which appeared on Carey’s own 1994 Christmas album Merry Christmas, is one of her biggest hits (it made Merry Christmas the third best-selling Christmas album of all time) and also happens to be the best holiday song ever written.

It has everything: A great hook, an incredible vocal performance by Carey, a festive vibe, and that great video where she frolics in the snow. It’s indestructible, and it should make you want to trim a tree or roast chestnuts or whatever you do to celebrate the season.

Its no shock Mariah is on there, yeah the multi-platinum “All I Want for Christmas Is You” was released on Columbia/Sony, but she is on Def jam now, just like Bieber, and she has released dance remixes of “All I Want..” for the past two holiday seasons on iTunes, so its really only shocking she is further trying to pilfer this modern day holiday staple even more. Nice to see, that he is bringing Boyz II Men back to the forefront of modern pop music. Have met them numerous times over the years, and they are true class acts, that Bieber only wishes he could emulate. The Band Perry duet, along with Usher thrown in proves he’s trying to be everything to everyone this Xmas. I love Colbie Caillat’s “Mistletoe” so I am interested to hear if this is a cover or some other new holiday tune.
I’m more interested in Michael Buble’s cover of “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” I think Justin Beiber and Mariah Carey are a weird pairing anyway; I can’t imagine their voices going that well together.

It is not a club banger? Its more of a radio play it safe Mariah. I love her dunrig her Fantasy days, but now it seems her music sounds the same. Just Curious. How old is the writer of this article? There have been a lot of classic Christmas songs. I doubt that many would consider Mariah Carey’s the best.
Mariah’s 1994 release is a bonafide modern day holiday staple/classic. Its played on virtually every mainstream top 40 station through the holiday season even when most modern contemporary Xmas songs that have come out every year have not. It will be interesting to see if pop stations play Buble this season after he had a pop hit with “Haven’t Met You Yet”.
I don’t see how age has anything to do with thinking that this is the best holiday song ever written. Mariah appeals to all ages, and so does the song. Many consider it to be at least one of the best holiday songs ever made, so Kyle’s opinion isn’t a far-fetched one.
Are you serious? All I Want For Christmas is by far the best modern holiday classic ever written in the past 50 years. Fact!
