Coldplay’s music may not be for everybody (“We’re as hated as a band can be,” according to frontman Chris Martin in the story in the current issue of Entertainment Weekly), but their music videos tend to be universally transcendent.
While the new clip for “Paradise” (the second video from Coldplay’s forthcoming fifth album Mylo Xyloto) isn’t as visually inventive as “The Scientist” or even “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall,” it is overflowing with charm.
Charm, and elephant suits.
The story goes like this: An elephant breaks free from the zoo and makes his way back to his home on an African plain, where his fellow elephants wear glasses and jam out to Coldplay songs.
Along the way, he busks for change, rides a unicycle, and executes a number of funny trunk-related visual gags. Check it out below.
The clip was directed by Mat Whitecross, one of the band’s go-to guys for videos (he also directed “Christmas Lights” and “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall,” among others), and it retains the sort of warmth and humor he tends to bring to the table.
But wasn’t Hype Williams supposed to direct this video? Had Hype actually gotten behind the camera, the video probably would have been the same, except there would have been more primary colors and a Busta Rhymes cameo.
What do you think of “Paradise”? Are you impressed by Chris Martin’s skills on a unicycle? And wouldn’t it have been cool had the giraffes at the end also been people in furry suits? Drops your thoughts in the comment pool below.

Coldplay’s ‘Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall’ video: Watch it here!

I love it!! I’ve watched it over and over. Best part is knowing I’m a small dot in those thousands of fans at the end and I saw them in elephant suits before the video was finished.
Wow that video was bad. I just kept laughing the entire time. Was this supposed to be a joke or something?
I was also in the crowd at that concert. It was an a magic night in Joburg. it make me love the song even more.
Very cool.
Quaaludes, only in musical form
Isn’t using the phrase “very cool” really very uncool (and extremely dated)?
@Ben: what’s your problem? I say “very cool” and I’m 25.
Para… Para.. Parasite.
Classic! I love their sense of humor with these types of videos. See also: “Talk”, “Life in Technicolor ii”, and Anton Corbijn version of “Viva La Vida.”
loved it! I had never heard the song and really liked it as well. I am a Coldplay fan , but not of all their songs. This rocks!
Absolutely brilliant!!! I loved it. Great job on the song and video.
Okay, sorry, but I would have really liked to see the band’s faces. One glimpse of Chris Martin on the unicycle just doesn’t cut it.
thought the video was cute and entertaining, love Coldplay. Also I am impressed by Chris Martin’s unicycle skills.
Amazing! This song made me fall in love with Coldplay all over again
I love Coldplay, so this is hard for me to admit, but I thought it was a terrible video. For sure they could’ve come up with something better.

You really make it appear so easy along with your presentation however I to find this matter to be really one thing which I think I would never understand. It sort of feels too complex and extremely wide for me. I am looking forward on your subsequent submit, I’ll try to get the grasp of it!
