If George Jones is on your list of people you still need to see live in concert, you’re going to want to get on that: After 50 years of touring, the Possum plans to pack it in after 2013.

He’s expected to visit approximately 60 cities during next year’s “The Grand Tour.” After an upper respiratory infection caused him to cancel dates earlier this summer, he’s back out on the road now with shows running into December.

Per the announcement, Jones wants to spend more time with his family — but not before he also records a new studio album. Dolly Parton has confirmed she’s writing songs for him, including a couple of duets in hopes she’ll get to sing one of them with him. “In my mind, nobody will ever sing better than George for emotion and heart and feelin’,” she said. “I love him personally, and I love his singin’.”

Readers, will you be joining him to say goodbye?
