LMFAO is breaking up, sort of

Where were you when the party-rocking stopped?

LMFAO‘s Redfoo told the AP that he and his partner-slash-nephew Sky Blu are taking a bit of a break.

Redfoo says he and Sky Blu — who is not only his bandmate but also blood relative — will be splitting for a while, giving each of them more time to, um, do whatever it is people named Redfoo and Sky Blu do in their spare time.

“I feel like we’ve been doing this for so long, five or six years.” Redfoo said in the interview. “And we’re kind of like saying, well, let’s just do what’s natural and just kind of explore that, instead of, like, forcing it all the time.”

He went on to note that the pair are going in “different directions” creatively.

“I think that we naturally just started hanging with two different sets of people, two different crowds, but we’re always family,” he said. “He’ll always be my nephew, I’ll always be his uncle.” Which is good, because we were beginning to worry there’d be an awkward Thanksgiving at Berry Gordy‘s house this year!

So, what’s next for Redfoo? The world of tennis: he’s reportedly been spending hours every day coaching junior player Ayaka Okuno (“I kind of use the Phil Jackson approach,” he says), he’s got a line of tennis clothing in the works, and he’s planning on sponsoring the United States Tennis Association’s Party Rock Open in Las Vegas beginning Sunday.

He’ll also be recording a track for the New England Patriots, claiming that “they asked me to write a song for their season.” And what will solo Redfoo sound like, you ask? “All the music that I’m going to make is always going to be LMFAO-ish,” he says. “I love all the topics that we talk about. I was really passionate about bringing party music to the world, so I will always be making some kind of party music.”
