You really got them — or you will soon. Brit rock icons the Kinks have reportedly reconciled and are returning with a new album and tour, nearly 20 years after their last split.

Frontman Ray Davies told London’s Sunday Times that he and his bandmate/brother Dave Davies — famously the most volatile sibling duo this side of the Gallaghers – have mended fences enough to begin collaborating again on new material. (The recent marking of the band’s 50th anniversary and the homeland success of biographical musical Sunny Afternoon may have helped.)

“It’s as close as it’s ever been to happening,” Ray told U.K. music magazine Uncut.  Dave concured: “I said to Ray I thought that it’d be a great shame if we don’t try and do something. I don’t think our love has diminished. I think the stage-play has played itself out a bit, the pretence and the acting. I think it’s time reality took over, and started directing the last years of… whatever it is. It’s like Cain and Abel.”

Ray also told the Times that he had Dave have “spoken a few times on the phone and emailed. He’s been composing his own songs, but I’d really like to write with him again…We both agree we don’t want to do old stuff or tour with past hits. It’s got to be something new.”

Still, there are reservations: Dave has said “I don’t want to see the legacy of the Kinks soured by two miserable old men doing it for the money.”
