Sir Paul McCartney gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. Finally!

No, that headline is not from 1997. Or 1989. Or 1975. Today, Sir Paul McCartney, at 69 years old, finally received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Even more astoundingly, McCartney is the last of the Beatles to earn this honor. John Lennon posthumously got his star in 1988; The Beatles as a band got their star in 1998; George Harrison got his star posthumously in 2009; and Ringo Starr got his star in 2010. Like their respective stars, McCartney’s was placed today in front of the famed Capitol Records building.

Reportedly, McCartney was nominated for a star in 1993, but scheduling issues kept the ceremony from happening until 19 years later, the same week McCartney releases an album of standards, Kisses on the Bottom. Which somehow reminds us: Axl Rose doesn’t have a Hollywood Walk of Fame star either.

Check out a photo of McCartney at today’s ceremony below:  READ FULL STORY »

Coroner’s officials on Tuesday ruled Don Cornelius’ death a suicide, nearly a week after the Soul Train creator and host killed himself with a gunshot to the head.

Kelly Clarkson covers Madonna's 'Crazy for You' in concert: Watch here!

Everyone’s getting in on the latest frenzy around Madonna — even Kelly Clarkson.

The night before Clarkson performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl where Her Madgesty performed the halftime show, American Idol‘s original winner  got into the spirit of the weekend and performed a lovely, lilting, guitar-riffing cover of Madonna’s No. 1 hit from 1984, “Crazy for You.”

It was actually a fan request: Before each tour date, Clarkson has been soliciting her concertgoers for songs that she should cover. On this particular Saturday night stop in Bossier City, La., Clarkson did a cover of her own choice first — Florence and the Machine’s “Heavy in Your Arms” — before segueing into “Crazy for You.” (It’s all fitting, considering how Clarkson got into the business, right?)

Rather delightfully, she put her connection to the song into context for us. “This is like a couples-skate song!” Clarkson says in the middle of “Crazy for You.” At the end of her performance, she explained, “You know how when you hear a song and it brings you to a moment?” she says. “I was totally at the skating rink thinking of Michael Webb — whatever! So…anyway, I hated junior high and high school. I was that kid that never fit in. Wat wat!” Awwww.

Clarkson has recently covered such favorites as Heart’s “What About Love” and Coldplay’s “Fix You” in concert, but for now, enjoy her take on classic Madge:

On the heels of her halftime performance at the most watched Super Bowl (and, indeed, TV program) of all time, Madonna has announced a tour that will cover five continents — including, yes, her own.

Her Madgesty’s first foray on the road since 2008′s Sticky & Sweet tour will begin May 29 in Tel Aviv, and the European leg will finish on Aug. 21 in Nice, France, with North American dates (including a final stop in Miami) yet to be announced UPDATE: Find the stops, beginning Aug. 28 in Philadelphia, here.

After Sunday’s Gladiator-cum-varsity-pep-squad-cum-choir-loft monstrosity (unlike EW critic Ken Tucker, I was not bowled over), we’re left to do wonder: What will Madonna pull out this time? Below, some ideas — good, bad, and otherwise — for the tour. READ FULL STORY »

Chris Brown to perform at the Grammys

Tagged: , ,

Chris Brown will perform at this year’s Grammy Awards, the event where his career almost ended three years ago.

Brown assaulted then-girlfriend Rihanna at a pre-Grammy party in 2009 and is serving five years of probation for the felony attack. A source told The Associated Press on Monday that Brown will hit the stage at Sunday’s show. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because Brown’s performance has not been officially announced.

After his attack on Rihanna, Brown’s reputation plummeted. But he has since bounced back, releasing multiple mixtapes and the multi-hit album, “F.A.M.E. (Forgiving All My Enemies).” It’s nominated for three Grammys.

Rihanna will also perform at the show. She’s up for four awards.

Brown and Rihanna were supposed to perform at the 2009 Grammys.

Randy Travis apologizes for public intoxication arrest

Country singer Randy Travis has apologized after being arrested on a charge of public intoxication outside a North Texas church.

Denton County sheriff’s spokesman Tom Reedy says police in the town of Sanger arrested Travis early Monday after spotting a vehicle parked in front of a church and finding an open bottle of wine and Travis smelling of alcohol.

Reedy says Travis, whose hits include “Forever and Ever, Amen,” was brought to the Denton County jail about 1:30 a.m. and released six hours later.

The singer, who lives in the small town of Tioga near Sanger, apologized in a statement to The Associated Press “for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl.”

Travis, who launches a concert tour Friday, says he’s “committed to being responsible and accountable.”

Kelly Clarkson keeps it quick and simple for her Super Bowl performance of the national anthem

There were no flubbed lyrics, and no screeching, when Kelly Clarkson sang the national anthem at Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday. In fact, Clarkson kept things simple and straightforward, sporting a simple black dress, a nice mane of new on-trend bangs, and a swiftly paced rendition of the melodically demanding song that usually invites stretched-out bombast from the big-voiced divas invited to sing it for a national audience. Backed by a children’s choir — because what isn’t more meaningful when backed by a children’s choir? — Clarkson also seemed to be singing live, rather than merely lip-syncing.  READ FULL STORY »

Madonna debuts 'Give Me All Your Luvin',' featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.: Watch it here

madonna-video

Unbate your breath, Madge fans: it’s here.

After sprinkling around a string of promotional hints and teasers, Madonna is now allowing us to witness her sports-crazed video for “Give Me All Your Luvin’” in all its glory.

Surrounded by cartoonish, Dick Tracy-esque imagery and an (unbranded) football team, Madge runs around in various costumes while Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. — dressed as cheerleaders — goad her on.

The trio, as the video suggests, are psyched about their Super Bowl halftime duties this Sunday. Not even an anonymous gangster with a tommy gun can stop them now!

And as a bonus, one of the three outré personalities in the video attempts to nurse a plastic baby doll through her leopard-print brassiere. Which lady is it? Watch the video below to find out:

'Soul Train' creator Don Cornelius found dead

Don Cornelius, the man who created the 1970s hit Soul Train, was found dead in his home in Sherman Oaks on Wednesday, EW has confirmed. Cornelius, who hosted the show between 1971 and 1993, died of an apparent suicide via a gunshot wound. He was 75. The Los Angeles Police Department tells EW that an investigation surrounding his death is ongoing, but there are no signs of foul play.

Cornelius was well known for his catchphrase that would end each episode of Soul Train: “You can bet your last money, it’s all gonna be a stone gas, honey! I’m Don Cornelius, and as always in parting, we wish you love, peace, and soul.” Soul Train continues to be a force in pop culture: Not only is it often referenced in movies and TV shows, but the Soul Train Music Awards still runs on an annual basis. (And just two years ago, Vh1 ran a Soul Train documentary, which focused on the show and its influence, and The Best of Soul Train was released commemorating the show’s 40th anniversary.) TV Jukebox: 'House,' 'Pretty Little Liars,' 'One Tree Hill,' and more music-on-TV moments

Even though love songs account for about 90 percent of the market (a statistic I just made up as I listened to Adele and Snow Patrol on repeat), it’s been a while since we had a good line-up of serious heart flutterers here on TV Jukebox. From a rain-soaked reunion (Pretty Little Liars) to a synchronized swimming-themed proposal (Glee), it was a good week for all things gushy and gooey. Some were searching for love (Private Practice, Happy Endings), while others were letting it go (Gossip Girl, The Secret Circle).

Of course, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t room for a some rumbling (Teen Mom 2), reconciliation (House), revenge (Hell on Wheels), strip club shenanigans (One Tree Hill, CSI), and straight-up struttin’ (House of Lies). All of which is without mentioning the most disturbing use of ’80s soft rock to come down the pipeline is quite some time. Thanks for that, Criminal Minds! See our latest picks below. (Warning for those still catching up on DVR: SPOILERS ahead!) READ FULL STORY »
