Anna Kendrick mugs her way through a diner in new 'Cups' video

The Pitch Perfect craze isn’t over yet. Not only did much of the cast reunite to perform at Sunday night’s MTV Movie Awards, but star Anna Kendrick (who was not at the ceremony) has just released a new video for her surprise hit single “Cups.”

As we reported in February, Universal Music remixed Kendrick’s tumbler-tapping tune for pop radio, giving it a lush, acoustic sound to fill out her sweet, folky vocal. The original version of the track has already reached No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100, but perhaps the remixed tune and new music video, directed by Pitch Perfect helmer Jason Moore, will help the song reach a new peak.

In the beautifully shot clip, Kendrick plays a battered (literally!) cook at a small diner, where she spends her days rolling out biscuits and dreaming of a trip to somewhere tropical and sunny. As she skips through the restaurant, the video morphs into an all out extravaganza of rhythmic and progressively more intricate cup jams, which are choreographed impressively.

Anna Kendrick's 'Pitch Perfect' song 'Cups' has been remixed for mainstream radio -- LISTEN

Anna Kendrick has already enjoyed a few weeks on Billboard‘s Hot 100 with her breakout a cappella hit “Cups,” from the Pitch Perfect soundtrack. Now, in a sign of just how popular the movie has become since its December DVD release, “Cups” is getting pushed to mainstream radio. According to AllAccess, the song hits stations on March 26.

A longer, remixed version of the song recently hit the web — complete with strummy guitar and plinky xylophone — which you can listen to below. The folky sing-a-long is slight, for sure, but it’s also infectious, and Kendrick has a prettily sweet tone that makes it all go down easy. READ FULL STORY

Are you aware that Anna Kendrick currently has the No. 68 song in the country?

Paging all pop culture aca-fficianados: Pitch Perfect may actually have a chart hit on its hands — more than three months after the movie’s release.

The a cappella comedy wasn’t exactly an Avengers-sized blockbuster; it grossed a respectable $65 million during its theatrical run, but today, almost four months after its release, the little film that could is still thriving in the tweets/posts/minds of fans. Pitch Perfect appears to have achieved instantaneous cult status — you might say it’s this generation’s Bring It On, another über-choreographed, girl-centric musical comedy.

Now that Pitch Perfect is out on DVD/Blu-ray, Anna Kendrick, the film’s star, is enjoying something few other Hollywood actresses ever get a taste of: a single on Billboard‘s Hot 100.

Yep, Kendrick’s solo tune “Cups,” which uses the cup-drumming rhythm popularized in viral videos by Erato and Lennon and Maisy (as well as summer camps across the country), has climbed all the way to number 68 on the all-genre chart — an impressive feat for any song, much less one that’s only one minute and 17 seconds long. (The full Pitch Perfect soundtrack sold 212,000 copies in 2012 following its September 25 release.)

Kendrick performed a bit of “Cups” on The Late Show last October. Check it out below:
