'Man of Steel' soundtrack: New tech simulates surround sound through headphones

When Christopher Nolan first approached his Dark Knight trilogy and Inception composer about writing the music for the upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel, Hans Zimmer turned down the opportunity.

“I was the reluctant bride on this one,” Zimmer recently told reporters. ”It’s an American icon. The John Williams [Superman] score was iconic, and I think it’s some of John’s best work. [I thought,] ‘Do I really want to follow in those footsteps?’”

But now the epic movie music maestro is very pleased that he ultimately signed on for what he called an “intimidating” task, and one reason is because it’s led to another chance for him and Nolan, who produced Man of Steel, to push the technology in their field. The deluxe soundtrack for Man of Steel was released today and features a new audio technology which creates a surround sound experience through regular headphones. When it comes to all the forms of entertainment in the Super Bowl telecast, music completes the package. No, we’re not talking about Beyonce’s halftime show. We’re talking about the tunes in all those commercials.

The music in this year’s Big Game ads was a mix of recent hits and decades-old classics. Appropriate for one of America’s biggest partying days, the song choices were mostly upbeat and celebratory, but there were a few more emotional tracks as well.

Jack White won't be scoring 'The Lone Ranger' after all

Tough break, Kemo Sabe — Jack White’s not scoring The Lone Ranger after all.

Though it was initially reported that the blues-rocker would compose the score for the upcoming film starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, Disney has announced that Pirates of the Caribbean veteran Hans Zimmer is now on board.  READ FULL STORY »

'Dark Knight Rises' composer Hans Zimmer releases charity song for Aurora victims

Dane Cook notwithstanding, the acts of goodwill regarding the Aurora tragedy that took place during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises have yet to slow down. DC Comics has delayed its next Batman publication out of deference, Warner Bros. (the studio behind the Christopher Nolan trilogy-ender) has made substantial donations to various Aurora charities, and Christian Bale has been visiting hospitalized victims during the week. Now, Hans Zimmer is chipping in: the composer behind the Dark Knight Rises soundtrack has written song dedicated to the victims of the senseless tragedy. READ FULL STORY »
