'X Factor' runner-up Chris Rene signs record deal with Epic -- EXCLUSIVE

American Idol semi-finalists aren’t the only ones getting record deals these days.

Chris Rene, X Factor’s third-place finisher last season, has just told EW exclusively that he’ll be officially signing to Epic Records.

“I’ve dreamt about this moment my whole life,” says Rene. “And now its here. Working with L.A. Reid — ‘Big Homie’ —  is a dream come true; he’s a great man,” Rene continued, referring to his X Factor mentor, who also helms the label.

'X-Factor' judge L.A. Reid reportedly to take lead at Sony's Epic Records

L.A. Reid — former chairman of the Island Def Jam record label and judge on Fox’s upcoming singing-competition series The X-Factor — has landed a new gig as the head of Sony Music’s Epic Label Group, which is set to be restructured to include Jive Records, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sony has yet to respond to requests from EW seeking confirmation.

When he begins in the post after the 4th of July holiday, it will reunite the famed 55-year-old executive with two major artists — Usher and Pink — who he helped discover.

In a letter to his staff, Reid explains that he’s “always thrived on growth and the next great challenge, and I look forward with much enthusiasm to what the future holds.” This seemingly sets the table for the record executive to join Simon Cowell as a judge on the new singing competition series The X Factor.
