Mariah Carey releases new single 'The Art of Letting Go': Hear it here

It’s not quite right to call Mariah Carey’s upcoming 14th album “long-delayed,” since it hasn’t really had an official spot on the calendar to miss since the single “Triumphant (Get’Em)” arrived last summer.

The single that followed, this February, “Almost Home,” was reserved for the soundtrack to Oz The Great and Powerful — though the date did seem to draw closer with the Miguel-assisted May jam “#Beautiful,” which made it to no. 15 on the Hot 100.

The album we now know is called The Art of Letting Go still doesn’t have a release date, but it does have a new single — the title track, no less. Produced by Rodney Jerkins, the song has a nice throwback vibe to it (think “Vision of Love”), but also doesn’t really have a chorus, which sort of makes it a toss-up. Tip of the hat to the line, “Go to Mimi on your contact/ Press delete” though.

Mariah Carey talks about her new single, advice for young girls and shoulder recovery -- VIDEO

Following a serious shoulder injury in July — oh, the slings! — Mariah Carey is back and getting ready for the release of her new single, the title track of her upcoming album The Art of Letting Go.

In an interview with CNN, Carey, who has spent more than half of her life in the music industry, talks about going back to her musical roots for the album, the advice she has for young girls, and the connections fans make with her music.

“I never like to be totally specific. I like people to make it about their own life experiences.” the former American Idol judge said of her songs.

The single will be released in an exclusive listening party on Carey’s Facebook page on November 11 at 11 am ET. Watch the interview below:

BET Awards: Jamie Foxx, Nicki Minaj win; Justin Timberlake performs with Charlie Wilson

Who won video of the year again?

The BET Awards were barely about the actual awards as wild performances stole the night. They also didn’t present the top honor Sunday.

Janelle Monae ended the three and a half hour-plus event with a top notch performance of “Q.U.E.E.N.” alongside Erykah Badu, who brought a white poodle onstage. It was just one of the night’s best performances, which also featured stolen moments from a seductive Ciara, a slick Miguel, a random — but welcomed — reggae set and a playful Justin Timberlake with an even more playful Charlie Wilson.

Timberlake took a backseat to the soul singer, joining Wilson onstage for a medley of his solo and Gap Band hits.

Stevie Wonder, Jamie Foxx, Pharrell, Snoop Dogg and India.Arie were also part of the tribute to 60-year-old Wilson, who earned the lifetime achievement award.

Mariah Carey's new album gets a July release date

If you’re a fan of that new-album smell, it’s going to be a good summer for you. Somewhere before Gaga and Beyoncé’s next efforts and after Kanye’s Yeezus, the world will be getting another major star’s latest on July 23: “The New Era Begins,” Mariah Carey wrote on her Twitter, along with the hashtag #MC723.

But the question is, what kind of era will this be? Can fans expect the-title-does-not-fit-the-content misfires like first salvo “Triumphant (Get Em)”? Or will she deliver more good stuff in the easy, breezy “#Beautiful” vein?

Mariah Carey rides Miguel's hog in '#Beautiful' video: Watch it here!

Mariah-Carey.jpg

Considering how much Mariah Carey’s new single “#Beautiful” is driven by guest vocalist Miguel, it’s only appropriate the video for said single features Carey riding on the back of Miguel’s motorcycle.

The clip, which premiered last night on American Idol, actually features Miguel in multiple drivers’ seats: He later sits behind the wheel of a cherry automobile while Mimi teases a handful of upskirt shots in what appears to be a chandelier-adorned barn.

There’s little else besides those two set pieces, though luckily “#Beautiful” is such a breezy tune that it all falls into place. Give it a look below.  READ FULL STORY

Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon and #DemBabies celebrate 5th anniversary, Cinderella-style

The best way to brush away rumors that your bosses want to replace you with Jennifer Lopez? Simple: Put on your best princess gown, find a few dudes willing to dress up like cartoon footmen, and ride through Disneyland in a monkey-fighting fairytale carriage.

That’s just what Mariah Carey did last night. She and favorite accessory husband Nick Cannon spent the evening celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary at an elaborate, Cinderella-themed, Disney-approved vow renewal ceremony that featured trumpeters, a second wedding dress, and even a full-on Prince Charming outfit for Cannon — complete with epaulettes! This is true love, people. The occasion also happened to coincide with the second birthday of Cannon and Carey’s adorable twins, Moroccan and Monroe — a.k.a. “#DemBabies,” as Carey fondly calls the kids on Twitter.

Check out Mariah’s grand arrival at Disneyland’s Cinderella Castle, courtesy of the star’s own Vine account. (You just know that if Cinderella lived today, she’d have live-tweeted the crap out of that ball.)

Jimmy Fallon, Mariah Carey, The Roots, a bunch of awesome little kids sing 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' -- VIDEO

Give those Pandora and Spotify holiday playlists a break and turn to Jimmy Fallon, Mariah Carey, and The Roots for your morning cup of (non-alcoholic! or not) cheer.

With classroom musical instruments and holiday sweaters in tow, a glamorously gown-clad Carey (you didn’t think she’d seriously wear a sweater, did you?) joined the gang for a playful rendition of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” yesterday on Late Night.

Sure, the performance doesn’t hold a candle to this summer’s “Call Me Maybe” singalong, but the adorable children singing background and Carey’s breathy high notes make the video irresistible. I don’t know about you, but I’m taking a chug of eggnog anytime Carey sings that song on national television. Mariah early Christmas, everyone!

Nicki Minaj to Barbara Walters: 'Am I not good enough for you to get my side, because I'm a little black girl that raps?'

nicki-minaj

Nicki Minaj’s  E! special My Truth is certainly presenting one version of events. That’s the funny thing about truth, though: everyone’s is different.

In the second of her three-night special last night (which you can watch in full), Minaj gave her story about what is going on between herself, Mariah Carey and Barbara Walters. It all started a few months ago, when Carey told Walters that Minaj had threatened her. At the time, Carey, via Walters, said that she heard Minaj say, “If I had a gun, I would shoot the b***h,” referring to Carey. Walters then repeated on The View.

But in the new special, Minaj said that after Carey leveled the gun charge, Walters simply reported it and didn’t ask Minaj’s team for comment. “Am I not good enough for you [Walters] to get my side, because I’m a little black girl that raps?” she said, talking to her entourage. “Because if I was J. Lo, you would’ve called J. Lo’s camp. But are we not good enough for you Barbara?…I’m only good enough for you to tell people I’m ‘unpredictable,’ when you don’t f—–g know me?” READ FULL STORY

Mariah Carey's 'Triumphant' video takes her to the boxing ring -- VIDEO

Mariah-Carey_240x320.jpg

Mimi may be emancipated, but she’s on the ropes — into the boxing ring, specifically — in the just released a new video for her current single “Triumphant (Get ‘Em),” which also features rappers Rick Ross and Meek Mill.

As with anything from Carey’s universe, there’s a distinct level of Mimi fabulosity to the clip. Dressed to the nines in a couple of chic, midriff-baring dresses — girl looks good! — Carey is a part of rapper Meek Mill’s entourage (he plays the boxer at the center of the action). Rick Ross is also a sundry member of the boxer’s crew. Do you get it? The winner of the match will be triumphant!

The best part is when Carey plays the role of a “boxing ring girl” (yes, this is a technical term — I looked it up) and holds up various cards announcing rounds. The oddest part is that, while Carey is clearly the star of the show, she relinquishes lots of precious screen time over to Meek Mill and Rick Ross for their rapping interludes. Carey would be nothing more than a pretty-girl afterthought if it weren’t for those card-carrying moments and the cuts to her in front of a — you guessed it — glittery screen (inventive!). But, in the end, it’s all very fitting for the song’s vibe.
