The stellar new mixtape from Mike Will Made It, rap's hottest producer -- featuring Future, Miley, Ciara, and more

Rap producer Mike Will, who made the beat for “We Can’t Stop” and executive produced Bangerz, got Miley Cyrus revving her motorbooty in 2013.

But he’s no Svengali. To Miley, at least, he acted more like a consigliere: the close advisor whose gravitas balanced out her wilder impulses. (“We Can’t Stop” makes for such a transfixing party anthem because of its wistful undercurrent.) Of course, any decent consigliere helps plot chaos as much as they counsel discretion. Will’s latest mixtape, #MikeWiLLBeenTriLL, showcases the stormy impulses that draw artists to him, making for a dark but ridiculously entertaining tour through the back rooms of today’s rap. Behind the Scenes 2013: Miley Cyrus explains the origin of the singing cat at the AMAs: 'I found it on Tumblr'

The new issue of Entertainment Weekly runs down some of the best performances from all across the music world in 2013. One of the entries on that list was Miley Cyrus’ performance of “Wrecking Ball” at November’s American Music Awards, which found Cyrus singing the power ballad in front of a giant projection of a cat who “sang” along and wept diamonds during the song’s climax.

Like many of the elements of Cyrus’ visual approach, the genesis of that performance began on the Internet. “I found that cat on Tumblr,” Cyrus told EW. “I’m obsessed with cats but I have four dogs so I can’t have a cat. But I am obsessed with cats. So I found this cat and sent it to ['We Can't Stop' video director] Diane Martel, and we turned it into this little GIF. For some reason, when I saw it, I felt like it would be the saddest thing to see this cat sing ‘Wrecking Ball’ with me. I had to track down the dude who made [the original Tumblr post] who lives in Japan. I think a lot of kids knew what that cat was. They had seen that cat online before because it got passed around on Twitter.”

Once they had the basic idea down, it was time to expand. READ FULL STORY

Oh Psy, you scamp — running the table two years in a row.

South Korea’s pony-danciest pop import had another bang-up year in video pageviews, following last year’s no. 1 “Gangam Style” with “Gentleman” in 2013. But Miley Cyrus, bless her, came close to wrecking him — and still beat him in total views.

Also on the list? The usual suspects: Katy, Rihanna, “Blurred Line” boobs, and more.

Miley Cyrus' Entertainer of the Year is Pharrell Williams

Miley Cyrus had quite a year. As she told Entertainment Weekly, she planned on 2013 being the best year of her life, and she certainly lived up to that lofty goal. Cyrus is one of EW’s Entertainers of the Year, and when asked who she would pass that honor on to, she agreed with one of EW’s picks.

“I really think Pharrell [Williams] is the entertainer of the year,” Cyrus told EW. “Not only for what he did on my record but for what he did in the music industry in general with ‘Blurred Lines’ and Daft Punk.” Indeed, Williams contributed “#GETITRIGHT” to Cyrus’ album Bangerz and provided lots of guidance for her sonic reinvention.

In Williams, Cyrus found a kindred spirit. “He and I were kind of on the same path, and I think that’s why he and I connected,” she said. READ FULL STORY

Miley Cyrus to take over MTV tomorrow for her 21st birthday -- see the teaser video here

What did you do when you turned 21? Was it a brief but torrid affair with tequila, or was it a quiet night at home racked by college graduation-related panic?

No matter how hard (or little) you raged, its unlikely that you commandeered a cable network when you arrived at legal drinking age. But apparently that’s what you get for the girl who has everything, as MTV will be handing the controls over to Miley Cyrus tomorrow, which is Cyrus’ birthday.

Starting at Noon, Cyrus will lord over an eight-hour block of programming that will begin with 21 Candles: Miley’s MTV Moments, a compendium of the star’s time on the channel and a retrospective look at how she has evolved live on cable TV.

The day will include an extra-long version of the Miley: The Movement documentary from earlier this year as well as episodes of Cyrus’ favorite MTV shows Awkward. and Snooki and JWOWW. There will also be a smattering of music videos, and probably 10,000 spins of Cyrus twerking at this year’s Video Music Awards.

If the clip below is any indication, 21 Candles: Miley’s MTV Moments might be fun. In it, Cyrus flashes back to a question she took about tattoos on TRL back in 2008. The now-tattooed Cyrus reveals that she might not have been 100 percent telling the truth in ’08, and lays out her needle philosophy below.  READ FULL STORY

Miley Cyrus says it was real pot at the EMAs, calls herself one of world's biggest feminists

Miley Cyrus is no poser: In an interview on British radio, the pop star revealed that she was indeed smoking real pot onstage at the MTV Europe Music Awards, THR reports.

But Cyrus insists she wasn’t trying to engineer yet another publicity-generating to-do. “It’s not something that I think about,” the “Wrecking Ball” singer said. “I was just walking out of my room and then I was like, ‘Oh, I have this in my bag. That will be really funny.’”

“And I didn’t say anything to anybody,” she continued. “It’s not that I think about that… and I don’t tell anyone I’m gonna do it. Some people I think overthink so much … That’s not why I do it. I just did it mostly because I knew the fans in Amsterdam would love it, and they started going crazy when I did it … But I don’t really care what the media says because I don’t Google myself, so I don’t know what they say. And I don’t care.”
