Will 'One Pound Fish' be the new 'Gangnam Style'?

Between Nicole Westbrook’s “It’s Thanksgiving,” Double Take’s “Hot Problems,” and Gnesa’s “Wilder,” 2012 gave us no shortage of awesomely terrible Auto-Tune extravaganzas.

It’s rare that these YouTube novelties ever transcend the punchline status, but PSY’s “Gangnam Style” and Rebecca Black’s “Friday” have both demonstrated that viral exposure can turn a song into a legitimate mainstream hit  — whether you like it or not.

Now, it appears that a track called “One Pound Fish” by Muhammad Shahid Nazir, a Pakistani fishmonger living in Britain, is vying to become the latest international phenomenon.

Earlier in 2012, Nazir, who’s now popularly known as the £1 Fish Man, created a simple street-side song in order to attract customers to his stand in the Queens Market in London. When a bystander filmed Nazir singing his ditty in April, he experienced a small taste of internet fame after the video went viral.

Warner Music quickly moved in and offered Nazir the chance to record a techno-version of the song and shoot a snazzy/chintzy music video, which places him in front of scantily-dressed Bollywood-style dancers.

Surprisingly (or not), it’s already earned over 12 million views in less than four weeks: READ FULL STORY
