Mel B breaks out, makes out in 'For Once In My Life' video: Watch it here!

It’s been 17 years since Melanie Brown (aka Mel B, aka Scary Spice) first declared that all she really wanted to do was “zigazig-ha.”

Though she had one of the better Spice Girls solo projects in 2000’s Hot, she hasn’t done solo work since 2005’s L.A. State of Mind, instead choosing to focus on being a judge on reality competition shows, taking her top off for breast cancer awareness, and participating in the Spice Girls reunion.

But she’s back with a new single called “For Once In My Life,” and while the track itself is reasonable enough blast of synth-ravaged dance pop, the video is a pretty impressive little piece of business. It finds Mel B transitioning from what is apparently a bland suburban existence into a more chaotic, party filled life that finds her constantly taking her clothes off and shifting hair styles. At the climax, she makes out with what is apparently a clone of herself (or a version of herself from eight hours ago who just emerged from the machine).

Anyway, crank it up and have a little fun with the artist formerly known as Scary.  READ FULL STORY

New Music Tuesday, Diva Edition: Leona Lewis, Ciara, Nelly Furtado, and a mini-Spice Girls reunion

Leona-Lewis.jpg

It’s a good week to be a pop music fan: Nicki Minaj might be joining American Idol, J. Lo is taking her tour into the third dimension, and Xtina’s shooting a video. Here a preview of just a few of the new lady-pop gifts delivered into our inboxes today:

Leona Lewis featuring Childish Gambino — “Trouble”
Leona Lewis has been a very bad girl. She drives her lover to drink, smoke and get belligerent in the bedroom, and all she has to say is “I told you so”  on the icy “Trouble.” Fortunately, Lewis gets by with a little help from her friends – Scottish chanteuse Emeli Sandé co-wrote the song, and Childish Gambino guest raps as the victim boyfriend, busting in like an unexpected Spotify ad. Hear it here.

Nelly Furtado — “Parking Lot”
When Nelly isn’t breaking out viral K-Pop video dance moves, she’s showing off new tracks from her upcoming album, The Spirit Indestructible. Like its predecessors “Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)” and the album’s title track, the latest single is a Darkchild collaboration that buzzes like a bee while Furtado longs for her youthful days of killing time in parking lots and … mud-dancing in a barn? Normal teen stuff. Listen here.

Ciara — “Livin’ It Up”
Breaking news: Ciara doesn’t have a lot of friends — or so she sings on the carefree “Livin’ It Up,” which may or may not be from the upcoming One Woman Army. But that doesn’t seem to keep to CiCi down as she sings about her new-found P.M.A. over sprightly synthesizers. You have reason to be cheery, too — it’s a free download over at Cosmo, along with tracks by Karmin, Cher Lloyd and Paloma Faith. Hear it here.

Melanie C featuring Emma Bunton — “I Know Him so Well”
If a Spice Girls reunion is what you want, what you really really want, feel free to hold your breath. But in the meantime, you can hear two of the girls’ voices become one right now: Melanie C (Sporty) and Emma Bunton (Baby) spice up a cover of “I Know Him So Well,” a song from the musical Chess, written by ABBA’s Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus. Listen here.

Yes, Spice Girls are reuniting for the Olympics

I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want: a Spice Girls reunion!

Thankfully, the 2012 Summer Olympics in London will feature just that. According to the always-excited British press, the ’90s group’s five ladies — including the reportedly reluctant Victoria Beckham — have “signed on the dotted line” to perform as one sexy unit again at the Aug. 12 closing ceremony.

The band’s first reunion since 2008 was once rumored to be in the cards for 2010’s FIFA World Cup, but it hasn’t happened for the quintet — made up of Beckham (the singer-turned-fashion director known as Posh Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), and Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) — until now.  READ FULL STORY

The Spice Girls appear all in one place for the first time in four years

There was a time when the Spice Girls were inseparable. When they were busy spicing up our lives and encouraging everybody to zig-a-zig-ah, they always rolled as a unit. Then the individual members started breaking off to focus on solo careers and marrying soccer players, and eventually seeing the Spice Girls all together in one place became rarer and rarer.

Like Haley’s Comet, they’re back, though not under the oft-rumored context of another proper reunion. Rather, the five members of the group—Melanie Brown (Scary), Emma Bunton (Baby), Victoria Beckham (Posh), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), and Geri Halliwell (Ginger)—got together to celebrate Viva Forever, a musical based around the Girls’ music that opens on December 11 in London. They were last seen together taking a final bow on stage at the conclusion of their 2008 reunion tour, and there was a great deal of doubt that the entire team would be present for the opening of the show. But Beckham relented, and the Spice Girls all posed for photos.
