TV Jukebox: 'House,' 'Pretty Little Liars,' 'One Tree Hill,' and more music-on-TV moments

Even though love songs account for about 90 percent of the market (a statistic I just made up as I listened to Adele and Snow Patrol on repeat), it’s been a while since we had a good line-up of serious heart flutterers here on TV Jukebox. From a rain-soaked reunion (Pretty Little Liars) to a synchronized swimming-themed proposal (Glee), it was a good week for all things gushy and gooey. Some were searching for love (Private Practice, Happy Endings), while others were letting it go (Gossip Girl, The Secret Circle).

Of course, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t room for a some rumbling (Teen Mom 2), reconciliation (House), revenge (Hell on Wheels), strip club shenanigans (One Tree Hill, CSI), and straight-up struttin’ (House of Lies). All of which is without mentioning the most disturbing use of ’80s soft rock to come down the pipeline is quite some time. Thanks for that, Criminal Minds! See our latest picks below. (Warning for those still catching up on DVR: SPOILERS ahead!) READ FULL STORY »

The National team up with John Slattery from 'Mad Men' in new video: Watch it here

It’s not easy to make an entertaining video when you’re an acclaimed-but-mopey indie band, more known for inducing introspective lethargy than turning frowns upside down. With that in mind, the “Conversation 16″ music video from The National, starring Mad Men‘s John Slattery and Daily Show contributor Kristen Schaal, is a real achievement.

It’s also not often that such a self-loathing song (sample lyric: “I tell you miserable things after you are asleep”) is accompanied by visual gags like a female president packing a teddy with a presidential seal on it (and we’re not talking Beanie Babies). Watch it here: READ FULL STORY »

'Glee': Warblers album to be released in April

It took only one song—Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”—for Blaine (Darren Criss) and the Warblers to become fan favorites on Glee. So, it’s only natural that the Warblers will be getting their own album due this April, according to Fox.

The series’ will release its fifth soundtrack album tomorrow, which includes season two tunes like “Thriller/Heads Will Roll” and “Take Me Or Leave Me.” It’s unclear what the track listing for the Warblers album will be but safe bets are “Teenage Dream,” “Hey, Soul Sister,” and “When I Get You Alone.” This week, Blaine and the Warblers (including Kurt) tackle Neon Trees’ “Animal.” Listen below to their cover: READ FULL STORY »

'Glee': Hear Matthew Morrison's new single, 'Summer Rain'

Mr. Schuester is gettin’ freaky up in here.

Glee star Matthew Morrison debuted his new single from his upcoming album on the Ryan Seacrest show this morning and it’s all about having sex in the rain on a rooftop! Dude has come a long way from “One Less Bell to Answer!”

This ode to a very R-rated public display of affection has a sort of Jason Mraz-y sound to it. Frankly, I just can’t wait for the video (I’m assuming there will be gratuitous shirtless shots of Morrison). Listen to the tune below: READ FULL STORY »

'Glee': Music producer Adam Anders spills details on the show's upcoming original music -- EXCLUSIVE

It was announced on Tuesday that pop culture phenom Glee would be debuting two completely original songs, “Loser Like Me” and “Get It Right,” on their March 15 episode (the songs will also be featured on the latest soundtrack compilation out March 8). Well, Gleeks, EW is giving you EXCLUSIVE details straight from the series’ music producer, Adam Anders, on how Glee landed superstar producer Max Martin (Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson), as well as what these new songs will sound like.

“Loser Like Me” will be tackled by the New Directions crew (Lea Michele and Cory Monteith take lead on most of the verses) and is, according to Anders, a “Gleek anthem. It’s a very uptempo, kind-of-summery hit.” Anders scored a major pop music coup by luring Martin, who crafted hits like “My Life Would Suck Without You,” to co-write the track. “He owns radio right now,” says Anders of Martin. “He’s had, like, seven No. 1s in the last year, and so if we wanna go to radio with anybody tagging along, I think he’s the guy you want.” Plus, getting Martin to sign on wasn’t as difficult as one might expect. “We’ve done like 30 of his songs on Glee,” says Anders. “The thing about Max is that he’s a huge fan of pop culture and he just loved the idea of being part of something that’s such a cultural phenomenon. So it was actually not hard to convince him at all. He was all about it.” Sweden-based Martin even got to witness the frenzy of Gleekdom. Says Anders, “He was actually over here working on Britney’s record and was exposed to exactly how enormous [Glee] is.” READ FULL STORY »

'Glee' exclusive: Hear Cory Monteith cover R.E.M.'s 'Losing My Religion'

Next week’s episode of Glee is one of the series’ best episodes yet: a moving hour devoted to the subject of religion. Look for the episode to feature a slew of great spirituality-themed covers including Billy Joel’s “Only the Good Die Young,” Barbara Streisand’s “Papa Can You Hear Me,” The Beatles “I Wanna Hold Your Hand,” and R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion,” performed by a faith-questioning Finn (Cory Monteith). For Monteith, the chance to tackle this tune was a dream come true. “So cool,” he tells EW. “I’ve been a huge Michael Stipe fan all my life.” Lucky for you Gleeks (and Music Mix-ers), EW has obtained an exclusive stream of Monteith’s version of the R.E.M. hit. Listen to Monteith pay homage to Stipe below…

'Glee' covers Britney Spears and Paramore: Hear it now!

The much-ballyhooed Britney Spears episode of Glee airs next week and we’ve got our first tease of the music we’ll be hearing. So what Spears classics will the New Directions folks be tackling? From the leaked montage, it appears the lucky songs are “Toxic,” “…Baby One More Time,” “Stronger,” “I’m a Slave 4 U,” and “Me Against the Music.”

Plus, the episode features the Paramore tune, “The Only Exception.” Glee star Lea Michele has actually had her eye on covering Paramore for a while now. Says Michele, “I’ve wanted to do Paramore since the beginning. The song that I’m doing  is actually my ringtone.” Hear a snippet of each below, including Michele’s cover of her ringtone…

What do you think of these Glee covers, Music Mix-ers? Are they doing Britney and Paramore justice?

Cher exclusive: The superstar discusses her upcoming album

The amazing and iconic Cher is making a return to the big-screen this November in the sequin fever dream Burlesque, opposite fellow pop star Christina Aguilera. But the diva is also beginning to plot out her next album, which has her working with hitmaker Diane Warren (Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing”; Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me”). Warren also wrote one of Cher’s two big Burlesque tunes, the big power ballad “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me.”

The 64-year-old diva says that fans shouldn’t expect the same dance music heard on her 1998 album, Believe, which featured the titular blockbuster single. “It really won’t be Believe-ish,” she says. “It will be more…I don’t know how to say it. I can’t put a genre to it. It’s a little bit more real instruments, like guitars and stuff like that.” Don’t get too excited Cher fans: the singer admits she’s still very early in the recording process.

Says Cher, “I just got some of the songs and I’m just learning [them] so I’m kind of at that beginning stage where you’re taking baby steps.” Watch the full trailer for Burlesque below:

Are you excited for a new Cher album, Music Mix-ers? What kind of music would you like to hear her tackle?
